Looking for something different to do with chuck roast than pot roast, gravy and potatoes? I've got you covered. Here are 20 different ways to use a chuck roast in your slow cooker or Instant Pot! You'll love the variety of recipes you can use that chuck roast for!

What is chuck roast?

A chuck roast is any cut of meat that comes from the chuck, or the shoulder part of the beef. Other names for chuck roast include chuck eye, chuck roll or blade roast. Many times it is used to make a pot roast. A pot roast isn’t a specific cut of meat—it’s just a method of preparing a cut of meat by slowly braising it with liquid (like beef stock) until it’s juicy and tender. Pot roast can be made with many cuts of meat but chuck is often used because the connective tissue melts as the chuck braises and self-bastes the beef, making it very tender. If you’re looking for a good pot roast recipe try Instant Pot French Onion Pot Roast!

20 different chuck roast recipes besides pot roast

Whenever chuck roast goes on sale I like to stock up. It is a perfect fit for the slow cooker or Instant Pot because it has a lot of collagen that will turn into gelatin after many hours of low and slow cooking or after braising in the Instant Pot.  That means it will become fork tender. If you have a chuck roast and want to try it for something new and different here are some beef chuck roast recipe ideas you’ll love!

Pro tip: In any recipe that calls for stew meat you can cut up a chuck roast into cubes and use that instead!

1. Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches

The French dip sandwich is a hot beef sandwich consisting of tender thin slices of beef layered a long white French roll that is dipped into a flavorful sauce made from the pan juices. It is a staple at any diner in America. My recipe is a mash-up between French Onion Soup and the French Dip Sandwich. Soft onions are piled along with the beef and cheese on a crusty roll.
