Slow Cooker Beef and Cheddar Sandwiches

These types of recipes are why I love the slow cooker. It’s magical isn’t it? You can take a beef chuck roast and put it in the crock with some water and onion soup mix and come back to it 10 hours later and it’s magically the most flavorful and tender beef ever. Grab a few sandwich buns and toast them under the broiler and then pile on the beef and shredded cheddar cheese. Boom! That’s dinner.

This recipe is perfect for a busy parent who works all day. You can literally get this recipe going in like 2 minutes. Then you want to cook it low and slow all day long for best results. So it won’t matter if you won’t be home for like 11 hours. This recipe for slow cooker beef and cheddar sandwiches would all be perfect for serving a large crowd, like at a family reunion. Just get a few crockpots going with a large cut of beef and then buy some slider buns. You won’t have to slave all day to have a great dinner. I hope you’ll try this recipe soon!

Try these other super fast and easy beef crockpot recipes…

Slow Cooker French Dip Tacos–tender, moist shredded roast beef rolled up in a soft flour tortilla and topped with melty mozzarella cheese. Dip it in au jus sauce for best results!

Slow Cooker Beef Gyros Recipe–Tender pieces of beef with soft onions, juicy tomatoes, crisp lettuce, creamy cucumber yogurt sauce all wrapped up in soft, melt in your mouth pita bread. And the best part of slow cooker beef gyros is that the beef is made in the slow cooker freeing up your time and making your kitchen smell good all day long.

3 Envelope Crockpot Roast–You may have heard of 3-envelope roast before (or maybe not).  It’s simply cooking roast with a packet of ranch, a packet of gravy and a packet of Italian dressing mix.  The roast gets super flavorful and the recipe really couldn’t be much easier.  I decided to take this well-known and loved recipe and make my own “envelopes” of ranch mix, gravy mix and Italian dressing mix.  That way if you aren’t okay with some of the ingredients in these packets you can make your own and know exactly what goes into what you’re eating.

What Slow Cooker Did You Use?

For this recipe I used my 6 quart oval Kitchenaid slow cooker. I love this slow cooker (you can see me talking about it in a video here). It cooks low and evenly. I love the medium heat choice because most slow cookers that I’ve seen only have the option of cooking on low or high. If you’re going to buy just one slow cooker, this is the one that I recommend.

Description

The easiest recipe to make ever. With only 4 ingredients total (beef, onion soup mix, cheddar and sandwich buns) you may be thinking that this recipe is just too easy to taste good. Well, you’re wrong 🙂 The flavor is amazing and your family will be asking for seconds.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 1 package dry onion soup
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar
  • 6 sandwich buns

Instructions

  1. Place beef in the slow cooker. Sprinkle the onion soup on top. Pour in the water. Cover and cook on low for 8-12 hours, or until beef is very tender.
  2. Remove beef and place on a cutting board. Shred. Return shredded meat to juices in the slow cooker.
  3. Under the broiler, toast the buns. Pile beef on top of the buns and then top with 1/4 cup of cheddar on each one. Place under the broiler for one more minute, until cheddar is melted.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

You might have already answered this but would you put the CrockPot on High or Low ? I want to say High but I don’t know for sure because mine gets really hot on High.

I am going to try this tomorrow. It sounds delicous! Do you think that searing it before putting in crock pot is necessary?

Hi, I just moved to Spain and crock pots are hard to find. Any advice on how to make this (and your other recipies) using the oven or stove top?

you can definitely use a dutch oven in the oven and just cook on a low temperature like 250 degrees.

How long would you cook this in a regular oven?

Put all ingredients in a heavy duty pot with a tight fitting lid and cook for 4-5 hours at 300 degrees
