Instant Pot Amish Yumasetti
I’ve never heard of yummasetti before but Kevin from Amish 365 said, “I used to hear a lot about this dish years ago in Amish settlements. I bet many still make it. It’s one of those timeless casseroles. But the popularity of this casserole in Amish kitchens also illustrates how cooking is changing among the Plain people. Processed foods such as canned soups and packaged noodles are becoming increasingly common.”
The name “yumasetti” is so fun! To me it sort of sounds like spaghetti and yummy mixed into one word. There is no spaghetti in this dish, rather it’s egg noodles. But oh well! We will still keep the name yumasetti.
There are just a handful of ingredients in this easy casserole recipe. It’s a family friendly meal. Skyler and all his friends took down the entire pot in just a few minutes. It’s filling and comforting and basically everything you want from a casserole!

Ingredients you’ll need to make Instant Pot Amish Yumasetti
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 cup diced onions
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt I like to use kosher salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 6 oz egg noodles or you can use another short cut of pasta like elbox macaroni or penne pasta
- 1 ½ cups chicken broth or you can use better than bouillon chicken base
- 1 (10.75 oz) can cream of chicken soup or you can use cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup. I like to use Campbell’s brand for best results
- ½ cup sour cream or you can use ricotta, cottage cheese, cream cheese or plain yogurt
- 1 cup frozen peas or if you have a husband like mine you can leave these out! He is not a fan of peas.
- ½ cup panko bread crumbs or you can toast bread and process them into breadcrumbs

Instant Pot Amish Yumasetti
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 3 minutes (plus 10 minute NPR)
- Total Time: 18 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
Description
A creamy, beefy noodle casserole with peas and breadcrumbs.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 cup diced onions
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 6 oz egg noodles
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1 (10.75 oz) can cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
Instructions
- Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the ground meat and break it up. Add in the onions. Brown for about 5 minutes. Drain off excess grease.
- Stir in the onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Pour in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking.
- Evenly add in the noodles and gently press down to submerge as much as possible.
- Spoon cream of chicken soup over the top of the noodles. Don’t stir.
- Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 3 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 10-15 minutes and then release any remaining pressure and remove the lid.
- Stir in the sour cream and peas.
- Sprinkle the bread crumbs on top. Use your air fryer lid to crisp up the top (I did it for 4 minutes at 450° F). Serve and enjoy!

Take a bow, Karen. This recipe actually got a like from my husband, who usually has a “meh” attitude about casseroles.
If you’re looking for tips before trying it, here’s what I did: I cooked the peas first because I just wasn’t sure they’d cook in the IP from frozen. That worked well. I don’t have an air fryer lid and didn’t want to use the oven broiler, so I browned the crumbs in a non-stick skillet in 1 tablespoon of butter. You can/should make a fresh batch for leftovers. I didn’t want to serve from the inner pot, so I transferred to a casserole dish before adding the sour cream/peas/toasted crumbs.
This is very similar to the tuna casseroles my Mom used to make, so I’m sure you could substitute tuna for the beef or turkey.

Could I leave our the sour cream?? My husband doesn’t like it.
Does he like cream cheese? If so I would use 4 oz of cream cheese in the place of sour cream.
You’re putting frozen peas in after it cooks, won’t they taste raw?
The hot noodles seem to warm them up and cook them enough for my taste. You can also cook them separately and then throw them in.

Do you really think that the Amish have an Instant Pot??? They don’t have electricity to operate the Instant Pot so why would you post a recipe trying to copy thier recipe??? Not cool!!!
I take “normal” recipes and adapt them to the Instant Pot. It’s what I do and what this blog is all about. So I took the recipe called Amish Yumasetti and figured out how to make it in the Instant Pot. That’s all. There’s nothing more to it than that.
Speaking as a Mennonite man, with Amish roots and Amish kin, I don’t think the Amish would give two hoots about Karen adapting a recipe. And, while they may not use instant pots, I can assure you that they use pressure cookers on the stove. Probably not to make yumasetti, but certainly to make other meals.

I don’t have an air fryer lid either. However, I’ve been known to just put some panko in a pan with a little butter and toast them. Then, when the food is done, sprinkle them on the casserole.

Karen, I have the thick home style noodles that are made in Montana. How long should they cook in the instant pot?
Sounds delicious! How long do you usually boil on the stove? Take the number on the back of the package. Divide by 2 and subtract 1 minute.

Put it in a baking dish and under your oven’s broiler for a few minutes to crisp up the breadcrumbs. Or toast the breadcrumbs and sprinkle them on top. Should be great!
