Ohana Potatoes

I’ve never met a spud I didn’t like! I think that quote is from Dolly Parton but I wholeheartedly agree with that. Lol! These creamy potatoes are a perfect side dish to ham, turkey, steak or pork chops. You’re going to love how creamy and cheesy they are.

This recipe has been adapted from Food.com. The author said, “Disney World has a Polynesian restaurant called ‘Ohana that is one of our favorite places to eat there. My kids begged me to make ‘Ohana Potatoes after we came home from our last trip. It took me a year to find the recipe but I finally did. We usually cut back on the cream and put in more cheese, but any way you make this, it’s GREAT!”

Ingredients/Substitution Ideas

  • Red potatoes–or yukon gold, peeled russets
  • Butter
  • Onion–yellow, white
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Parmesan–or gruyere
  • Heavy cream–or half and half, evaporated milk
  • Cornstarch

Steps

Pour 1 ½ cups water into bottom of Instant Pot. Place potatoes into steamer basket and place basket in bottom of Instant Pot. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid.

Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 1 minute on high pressure. When time is up move valve to venting and remove the lid.

Discard liquid and dry out the pot. Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the butter and let it melt. Add in the onion and saute until softened.

Stir in the cream, salt, pepper, cheddar and parmesan.

In a small bowl stir cornstarch together with 1 Tbsp of cold water and then stir the slurry into the pot to thicken the sauce. Once sauce has thickened turn off Instant Pot.

Fold in the potatoes.

Serve and enjoy! I added some chives and paprika on top for color.

Notes/Tips

  • Serve as a side dish to ham, pork chops, steaks, chicken, turkey etc.
  • This recipe is gluten free.
  • I used my 6 quart Instant Pot*. You can also make this in a 3 or 8 quart pot.
  • I used my silicone steamer basket*.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. This dish does not freeze well.
  • Other recipes you can make with heavy cream are Sugar Mountain Casserole and Carolina Casserole.
Did you know you can filter the recipes on my website to search by meat type, IP or Crockpot, low carb, gluten free, etc.? Use the filter to find exactly what you are looking for.

Sorry Karen. You just can’t please some people AND apparently they don’t know how to read as well! (Thank you Mary for your reminder about the recipe filter.;)
Thank you for all of your recipes and all you have taught me in the IP world,Karen. I got over my fear of “danger” and couldn’t live with out it. Quicker and better than a slow cooker! Maybe people should invest in the IP/slow cooker combo. Now a days they just aren’t that expensive.
Anyway, was thinking about crisping them up a bit. Maybe I could use my air fryer top? What do you think? Thanks again. You’re the best! 😊

Love your recipes, but what the!!! You do realize you are advertising SLOW and Pressure cooking. Yet, you only post pressure cooker recipes. If you don’t like slow cooker recipes, maybe change your header. I’m sure a lot of your followers may be like myself, dump and cook. I don’t have a pressure cooker, seems a bit dangerous

      Mr. Attermann,
Karen started her blog years ago when there were no Instant Pots, thus the “365 Days of Crockpot” heading. When IPs hit the scene thank GOODNESS she started recipes for them as well, I don’t know what I’d do without her. I cook for my husband & his infirm parents & her recipes for the IP have been a lifesaver. How can you say she doesn’t like slow cooker recipes when she has literally hundreds of them on her website if you’ll just use the filter and find them?? She shouldn’t have to change her header because you’re not a happy camper.
BTW, if you ever tried an Instant Pot, you’d probably never look back. They are not dangerous, I’m not a spring chicken and my grandma taught me how to use the original pressure cooker on the stove when I was 10 YEARS OLD & I’ve used it my whole life, not just for meals, but canning as well. It’s easy, just read the directions. Now, thanks to Karen’s help I’ve got an IP that I use pretty much every day!!

I have checked crockpot recipes a number of times and have not gotten anything. Every time I click on this recipe website Instapot recipes comes up. I do not have a instapot and do not need recipes that use one.

I don’t have one, either. I just convert the recipes myself. You can do it.

All you’re using the Instant Pot for is cooking the potatoes. I have an IP but not a steamer basket so I’m just going to boil my potatoes.
