Jane’s Crockpot Italian Beef

With only 3 main ingredients, this dump and go recipe is so super fast to get started. I dumped the ingredients into my slow cooker before church, set it to high and then we had delicious roast when we got home. I made mashed potatoes in my Instant Pot and had a side of corn as well. It was a classic Sunday dinner that was well received. My kids were telling me they were STARVING so I’m glad that they could eat this up and feel satisfied.

Ingredients/Substitution Ideas

  • Beef chuck steaks–or chuck roast cut into chunks
  • Dry Italian dressing mix
  • Onion soup mix
  • Water

Steps

Place chuck steaks into slow cooker. Sprinkle the dressing mix and soup mix on top. Pour water over everything.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until tender.

Serve and enjoy!

Notes/Tips

  • Serve with mashed potatoes, corn and a green veggie like spinach, green beans or salad. It’s also amazing piled onto toasted hoagie rolls for easy Italian beef sandwiches. Add sliced pepperoncini or giardiniera for a little tang and extra flavor.
  • If your beef isn’t quite tender, it likely needs more time. Chuck benefits from longer cooking.
  • If you want a deeper flavor, you could sear the chuck steaks before adding them (especially for the Instant Pot version), but it’s not necessary for a great result.
  • I used my 6 quart Ninja slow cooker.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Other recipes you can make with Italian dressing mix are Slow Cooker Creamy chicken and Instant Pot 3-Ingredient Italian Chicken.

Do you have any articles or advice on using the slow cook function on the instant pot? It seems to be a learning curve just with first learning how to pressure cook. Thanks!

Great question! The slow cook function on the Instant Pot definitely has a bit of a learning curve. A few tips that really help:
      • It doesn’t get quite as hot as a traditional slow cooker, so you may need to add extra time
      • Use the “More” setting for best results (it’s closest to a normal slow cooker low)
      • Browning ingredients first using sauté can really boost flavor
I still often prefer a traditional slow cooker, but the Instant Pot version can work great once you get used to it!
