Instant Pot Garlic Herb Pork Chops and Green Beans
My husband and I love going grocery shopping together. And sometimes my best recipes are from inspiration that we find in the grocery store. Greg picked up a package of pork sirloin boneless pork chops. They were a thick cut, probably an inch. Because I have cooked pork chops in the Instant Pot before I knew that they had a very short pressure cooking time…like 1 minute. So I picked up some green beans to go with the protein since I knew that they would also cook in about a minute. This is one thing that I always like to think through before I create an Instant Pot recipe. I like to pair foods together that have similar pressure cooking times. Otherwise some of the food would be overcooked or undercooked.
To create lots of flavor I seasoned and then browned the pork chops before I pressure cooked them. I like to use the sauté setting to brown meats. While the meat was browning I trimmed off the ends of the green beans and got out my spices. Then I added in some liquid to deglaze the pot and added in the green beans and seasonings. I ended up pressure cooking for just one minute. Then letting the pressure release naturally. The result was juicy pork chops and barely done green beans with lots of flavor.
I cooked all four pork chops in the pressure cooker and because there was a lot of meat we saved one for lunch today. I cut it up into slices and my husband took it to work to serve over salad.

What Pressure Cooker Did You Use?
To make Instant Pot Garlic Herb Pork Chops and Green Beans I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*. I love this Instant Pot because it has the yogurt making function which I use almost weekly. It has two pressure settings (high and low), and there are also little slots in the handles so that you can rest the lid there instead of putting it down on your counter-top.
PrintInstant Pot Garlic Herb Pork Chops and Green Beans
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 1 minute (plus NPR)
- Total Time: 16 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
Description
This one pot meal can be made in minutes. The pork chops and green beans are full of rich buttery herb flavors. Serve as is for a low-carb meal or serve with your favorite starch (potatoes, rice or noodles).
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 4 thick cut pork sirloin chops
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
- 4 large garlic cloves, minced
- 3/4 cup chicken broth
- 1 pound green beans, washed and trimmed
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Instructions
- Turn your Instant Pot to the saute setting. When the display says HOT add in the butter. Swirl the butter around until it is melted. Season one side of the pork chops with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. Lay the seasoned side down into the butter. Add as many pork chops as you can without overlapping. While the first side is browning, season the other side of the meat that is facing up. Let the pork chops brown for about 2 minutes on each side. I use tongs to flip them. Once both sides of the pork chops have been browned lay them on a plate.
- Add garlic into the pot and saute for 30 seconds. Add in the chicken broth and deglaze the pot.
- Lay the pork back into the pot. Add in the green beans. Season the green beans with basil, oregano, thyme and onion powder. Toss them a bit with a spoon.
- Cover the pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to “sealing.” Set the manual/pressure cook button for 1 minute. When the time is up let the pressure release naturally and remove the lid when the pin drops. My pressure released in only about 4 minutes! Remove the lid and test the pork for doneness. Use an instant read thermometer* to make sure that the internal temp of the pork chops reads at least 140 degrees F.
- Serve pork chops with green beans. Spoon the juices in the Instant Pot over the top of the meat and veggies.
Notes
I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*.

We made this tonight in our Ninja Foodi and it was delicious! I had hand cut loin chops that were about 1 1/2 inch thick and used frozen green beans and I did high pressure for 2 minutes and then manual release after 5 minutes. I prefer my pork chops medium rare, but these were still moist and tender, but not medium rare 😀
Karen says
Thanks Ron for the 5 stars!
Dee Anna says
I’ve made this and loved the green beans! How do I just make these without the port chops? Those were good too, but I want to make just green beans!! Thank you!!
Dee Anna
Karen says
I’d just add in the broth, the green beans and the seasonings. Then pressure cook for 1 minute.

New to instant pot cooking. I’ve had it for 4 years as a gift from my daughter but it really intimidates me. I’m only cooking for my husband and me so if I cut the recipe in half does the time need to be adjusted? Also, I have the 8 quart.
Thx.
Karen says
You can do this! Try reading this: https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/how-to-halve-instant-pot-recipes/

I’m new to Insta Pot. My Insta Pot never seems to release by itself. I have to release the valve myself, otherwise it goes to “keep warm” setting. What am I doing wrong? Also I seem to be missing the little top on the “valve” could that be the issue, & if it is where do I get one? Help!!!
Karen says
Have you read this article? It might help you understand pressure release: https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/what-is-natural-pressure-release-and-quick-release/
Bobbi says
Thanks for your reply. I will be able to get very brave with the instant pot now!!
Bonnie says
Would this recipe work with boneless country-style ribs? It looks great but I’m such a Instant Pot novice that everything I’ve tried to make has been overcooked. 🙁
Karen says
Country style ribs would be good but they’ll take a lot longer cooking time than chops. I would do 20 minutes with a natural pressure release. And I wouldn’t cook the green beans at the same time, they’ll get overdone.
Linda Lawson says
Made this last night for dinner and although it took 10 minutes to NR it was divine. Did not have the veg, had mashed potatoes. I use an 8.5 Foodie instead of the IP but your recipes are very workable with it. Thanks and keep them coming.
Karen says
Awesome! Glad you made it work for you!

While the meat came out perfectly, this had very subtle flavor so needed to season after cooking. However, we had substitutions – used tenderloin instead of chops so we cooked it longer than the 1 minute suggested for the chops, about 15m instead. We also used frozen green beans which may have had more water content and diluted the overall flavor.
So while it didn’t come out great, it wasn’t bad; we made substitutions that affected the flavor. The next I make this, I might add some Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar to punch it up a bit and maybe some mustard. We like tenderloin better than pork chops in this household.
Again, I think this is a good base and basic way to cook and we simply need more seasoning.
Karen says
I like tenderloin too! It turns out well in the IP! Glad you made the recipe work for you.
Misti S. says
This was so easy and delicious. I could eat all those flavorful green beans by myself. Thank you!
Karen says
They are my favorite part!
Cheryl says
We had a major water leak in the kitchen. So at the moment I have no stove, cabinets or sink. We are so over having to eat out every meal. I want to put my insta pot to use till my kitchen is complete.
I have a 2 1/2 lb pork tenderloin. How should I adjust the cooking time for that? Your recipe make me so hungry.
Karen says
Oh how horrible! Sorry Cheryl. I would use the method on this recipe to cook it: https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/instant-pot-pork-tenderloin-with-gravy/
John says
Loved this recipe, but would like to try using pork tenderloin next time. If I use the pork tenderloin with gravy method, which requires 10 minutes of cook time, wouldn’t that overcook the green beans? Should I cook them separately?
Karen says
Yes that would overcook the green beans. So yes, do them separately. 🙂
Jill says
How would you adjust the time for bone in pork chops?
Karen says
I would increase the pressure cooking time by 1-2 minutes.
Kristin Hirahatake says
The flavors were wonderful but our pressure release took almost an hour so needless to say the pork was very tough. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Karen says
Wow! Really? Mine literally took 4 minutes. Next time move the valve to venting after 10 minutes if it hasn’t completely released on its own.
Kristin Hirahatake says
Thanks!! Planning to make it again tomorrow.
Karen says
Okay great let me know how it goes!
KristyB says
Thanks for the tip! The first time I made it, I released the pressure after 25 minutes since I was worried something went wrong. They still tasted great, though.
Debbie says
How long would you cook a 2 inch pork loin chop?
Karen says
If you sear it as it states in the recipe I would do a 3 minute time. Check with a thermometer to make sure it is at least 145 degrees.
Danielle says
The green beans were delicious but the pork chops were so dry and rubbery. I had such high hopes with all the great reviews but it was awful. I followed the recipe and even cut short the natural release. I have no idea how anyone’s came out tender or juicy. Good flavors but felt like eating a shoe.
Karen says
So did you do a quick release? that’s probably where you went wrong. Quick release makes meat tough.
Mary says
I’m an Instant Pot newbie and just wanted to say this recipe is da bomb! The chops were moist and very flavorful. Huge hit with my family! Thank you.
Karen says
So glad you liked it Mary!
Betty says
We must shop at the same Winco. I walked in today after church and the thick cut pork sirloin chops were the featured item just inside the door! I didn’t have to look for them.
Everything was wonderful! I fixed the Instant Pot Ranch Potatoes as a side and the kids ate them up.
I purposely make extra food for the kids school lunches. I had some meat left ( I bought an extra large package on purpose) and some beans.
It’s almost 9 pm and I’m in the kitchen making another batch of potatoes so they can have them for lunch.
You are a lifesaver! I’m so glad I found you and your wonderful recipes… otherwise my Instant Pot would be sitting in the cabinet. Now it never gets put away!
Thank you!
Karen says
Thanks so much Betty! I love my Winco!
Annette Krupinski says
Absolutely delicious! My first meal in my new IP.. making it again to tonight again!! Was wondering if I could double beans? I love vegetables and want extra.. would 2 or 3 lbs make a difference, of course I’d double/triple spices…
Karen says
I think that would work just fine!
Sharon says
Made this tonight and it was very good. Since I didn’t have a full pound of green beans, I added a peeled and cut up potato to the mix, and it was so good. Also to cut the calories some, I used only 1 T. of butter and 1 T. of olive oil. Served it with a carrot salad which was a nice color contrast.
Karen says
Sounds like a great dinner!
Sheri says
Would you need to increase cooking time if you have 8 thick cut pork chops? If so, how long would you increase the cooking time too?
Thanks!!
Karen says
No, don’t increase the time. The pot will take longer to come to pressure and it will be cooking the whole time.
orin says
I have some extra thick boneless pork chops from Costco (maybe 1.5 inches) Can I cook them directly from frozen and if so, how much time should I add?
My porkchops always come out dry – no matter how I cook them – so I usually add sauce or apple sauce after cooking to make them go down easier.
Hopefully the instapot will make them juicier!
Karen says
I would add a minute to the cooking time and make sure to test the chops for doneness. Are you going to try to brown them frozen?
Lucia Pineda says
I made it using 12 thin pork chops and a bit over 1 lb of green beans. I did 0 for the pressure cook time and I let it release naturally but it was taking a while. It reaches 14 minutes on the lapse time and I got worried so I did a quick release. The pork chops were delicious!!! Should it have taken that long? How long did it take you?
Karen says
Mine only took a few minutes, maybe 5. But if the pot is fuller it will take longer!
Kelsey says
Question for you, I am going to make this tonight. I will have 4 porkchops. I read in the direction to brown them so they don’t overlap. After that step, can you put in all 4 together even if they overlap? Just want to be sure since this will be my first try. Thanks!
Karen says
Yes it should be okay.
LESLEE DEBO says
This was a delicious but I think I should’ve kept mine cooking longer I had such thick pork chops. They were a bit tough to cut.
tracy says
do you cook in high pressure or low pressure?
Karen says
high
Becky says
The cook time of 1 min was a little deceptive for an Instant Pot newbie, but the end result was so delicious. This recipe is definitely A keeper!!
Leia says
How would I adjust the cooking time if I used thinner pork chops?
Karen says
I would do a 0 minute pressure cook time and then follow the directions for pressure release as stated.
Linda V says
I made this for Sunday supper tonight. It is so hard to believe that the pork chops could get so tender with such a short time under pressure. They were a hit and the beans were delicious too. Definitely another keeper recipe! You are my favorite source for Instant Pot recipes! Keep them coming!
Karen says
Thank you so much Linda! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one!
Robb says
This recipe is absolutely delicious! Had it tonight and couldn’t wait to share our experience. Thick bone-in pork chop with fresh snap green beans. We added 1/2 tsp Kosher salt to the bean-sprinkle to liven them up.
We gained experience from when we made this 2 days ago… not so great when I thought we needed to increase saute time and double the cooking time (even though your recipe stated you had thick chops, I poorly assumed ours were thicker). So, the learning experience was a plus!
Karen says
Glad you learned from it!
Jane says
I made this recipe the other day, and it was a hit with all of us! I opted to use cut-up unpeeled potatoes instead of the green beans. Everything was so tender and flavorful! What a delicious way to prepare pork chops! Thank you for the recipe.
Karen says
I really like that idea about the potatoes! I will try that next time 🙂
Eliza says
I made this last night and it was delicious!
Karen says
So glad to hear, Eliza!
Amy says
Great recipe. I used what I had on hand this time – thicker cut pork chops, fresh herbs, beef broth and subbed frozen riced cauliflower in for the green beans. I added an extra minute to the cooking time but it came out great! I may use a little less liquid next time since a lot came out of the cauliflower, but I cooked it all down on Sauté after removing the pork and it came out a risotto consistency. Yum!
Karen says
That sounds really tasty!
Mary L says
I’m still a newbie with the Instant Pot, so when I saw how easy your recipe was I decided to give it a try. We really liked the pork chops & the green beans were fantastic.
Karen says
Welcome to the IP world, Mary! I’m glad you enjoyed this recipe!
Chell says
What about frozen green beans? How would they be added? Frozen or thawed?
Karen says
You can throw them in frozen.
LJM says
So if you use frozen GB will the cook time stay the same?
Karen says
I’m not sure but I’d keep it the same.
Mary says
Hi Karen, I don’t have a meat thermometer.
Should I increase the time on the pork chops?
Karen says
No, it should be fine. They really do cook so fast.
Amber says
Hello… I made this recipe with fresh brussel sprouts and yellow potatoes today. It was amazing-thanks for the recipe!
Karen says
sounds so good!
Maria says
Do you think chicken thighs or breasts would work the same?
Karen says
I think you’d need to increase the cooking time to at least 4 minutes. Chicken would be thicker and take longer to cook. But I bet it would taste really yummy!
Gale Brandstetter says
Can you use frozen pork tenderloin?
Karen says
Is it one long pork tenderloin or is it cut up into pieces?
Denise Thomas says
Can you add small potatoes
Karen says
Yes I think that would work, especially if they were red or yellow potatoes.
ohgal says
What an easy meal this was to make. I used my mini Instant pot as I cut the recipe in half for the 2 of us. I didn’t have fresh green beans on hand, so I used thawed Brussels sprouts instead. It was a delicious meal.
Karen says
Oh that’s cool about the Brussels sprouts! did they cook well?
Lynda says
I intensely dislike green beans, could asparagus be used instead or is it too delicate?
Karen says
Lynda, from what I’ve read asparagus cooks very very quickly. I’m afraid it would be too mushy. However you could add it in after and saute it while the pork rests on a plate.
Lynda says
That could work, it would take on the flavours of the herbs and such… as an alternate to asparagus, do you have any other suggestions for vegetables? Julienned carrots maybe?
Karen says
Oh yeah, carrots would work great! Try that 🙂
