Instant Pot Hissy Fit Casserole is an easy breakfast/brunch casserole with eggs, sausage, tots and cheese. Make it in your Instant Pot with an air fryer lid or in the oven.

Hissy Fit Casserole
You may just throw a hissy fit if you come home to find your family has eaten all of this without leaving you a piece! I got the idea for this casserole from the Plain Chicken website and the name made me laugh out loud. I haven’t used the term hissy fit for many years! Ha ha!
My version of this recipe can be made in your Instant Pot with an air fryer lid* or you can bake it in the oven. Even though this is a “breakfast” casserole you can also serve it for lunch, brunch or dinner.
I made this on Greg’s birthday and he ate two large helpings happily. All he wanted to do was eat this casserole and take a nap (I don’t blame him for that)! No hissy fits here.
Ingredients/Substitution Ideas
- Ground breakfast sausage–I used Jimmy Dean’s
- Dried onion–or a half cup of diced onion
- Eggs
- Milk
- Worcestershire sauce
- Garlic powder
- Kosher salt
- Black pepper
- Crispy crowns–or tater tots
- Shredded cheddar cheese–I like sharp
Instant Pot with Air Fryer Lid Steps
Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the sausage and break it up. Add in the onion. Brown for about 5 minutes. Drain off excess grease. Turn off Instant Pot.

In a bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Pour the mixture into the Instant Pot.

Cover Instant Pot with air fryer lid. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Then add the crispy crowns on top and Air Fry at 400 degrees for 10 more minutes.

Sprinkle the cheese on top and air fry for 1 more minute, until cheese is melted. Serve and enjoy!

Notes/Tips
- This casserole tastes great with a little bit of tabasco or salsa on top!
- Serve alongside some fresh fruit like strawberries.
- I used my Duo Crisp 6 quart Instant Pot*.
- This breakfast casserole is best the day of. But if you do have to store leftovers use an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- What are crispy crowns? Crispy Crowns are made by the Ore-Ida brand. They are coin shaped tater tots and cook quicker than tots plus they are more crispy!
- Other recipes you can make with tater tots are Instant Pot Tater Tot Casserole and Rodeo Casserole.

This was made last minute and I couldn’t find my sausage but I had bacon in the fridge. I cut it up before cooking and followed everything else as written. This was super delicious and easy to make! Another homerun recipe

Bacon is always a winner!
This looks delicious and I plan on making it, but now I want to buy either an air fryer lid to go on my (older) IP, the Duo Crisp (two lids) that you used here, or the Instant Pot Duo Crisp Ultimate (one lid). Which would you recommend, if you don’t mind me asking?
I think they would both be awesome! I like the one with two lids that I have. I have room though to store.
Can’t wait to make this!! Thank you so much for allowing people like me to make this delicious recipe!!
I hope you love it!
