To me, there are few things that are better than fresh, juicy peaches! Unfortunately, there are only a couple of months a year that we can experience the joy of peaches. Let’s take advantage of these summer months and eat as many ripe peaches as possible.

Recipe for 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Peach Cobbler
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 2 hours
- Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
- Yield: 8 servings 1x
Description
The easiest peach cobbler you will ever make!
Ingredients
- 6 large peaches, peeled and sliced (this will seem like a lot of peaches but believe me, you won’t regret it)
- 1 white cake mix, unprepared (you can also use a yellow cake mix if you prefer)
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
Instructions
- Place sliced peaches in bottom of slow cooker.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix (unprepared) with the butter. Cut the butter into the cake mix with a pastry blender (or fork or potato masher) until crumbly.
- Sprinkle cake mix mixture over peaches.
- Place paper towel or dish towel on top of slow cooker and seal with slow cooker’s lid. Cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours or on LOW for about 4 hours.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
I used my 3 quart oval slow cooker for this recipe. I would also suggest using a 3 quart casserole crock slow cooker.
For this recipe (and many others) I simply love using my Casserole Crock. It is a slow cooker that is shaped like a 9 x 13 inch pan. It is perfect for casseroles and lasagna and desserts. It’s pretty affordable too! I really think that you need this in your kitchen. 🙂
You can buy it on Amazon for under $40. The cool thing about this slow cooker is that you can cook the food in the oven and then keep it warm in the slow cooker or cook the food in the slow cooker and brown the top in the oven. The removable insert is totally oven safe and it fits in the dishwasher too, which is a bonus.

I use this super easy recipe for work potlucks, so it can cook in the moning and be ready for lunchtime.
I make a few adjustments and everyone raves over it.
1) instead of fresh, i blend canned peaches: one can in juice, one can of pie filling with thicker syrup. Frozen fruit can also be added. But it may need a bit of sugar, either from can pie filling or added sweetner
2) as im adding the canned peaches, i drizzle in some sourdough starter to make a bit of dough as it bakes inside the peaches (or other fruit).
3) dont over-cut the butter into cake mix. It should be lumpy
4) sometimes i add some dried cranberries to soak up some juice and add sourness.
And always use a crockpot liner for easier cleanup.
Michael A says
Oops… forgot to say, drain most of the juice off of the one can before mixing it with the pie filling

Thanks for your tips Michael!

This is a really good recipe. Thank you, Karen, for sharing it. In reading several of the negative comments, I noticed that the instructions for this recipe could be made a little bit more detailed. Such as: 1) spraying the inside of the crock, just like you would if baking in the oven, or using a slow-cooker liner to help prevent sticking; 2) when cutting the butter into the cake mix, the butter pieces should be about the size of small peas (just like for pie dough, if anyone makes that); 3) if using frozen peaches (or apples, etc.), they should be thawed and well drained – there is something about freezing fruit that causes it to release more water into a dish than fresh and will make the cake mix very soggy and not cook properly; canned peaches should also be thoroughly drained 4) the cake mix should be spread in an even layer over the fruit – too much in the middle and it won’t cook through, not enough along the edge and it will burn
I used 1.5 quarts of home-grown, frozen peaches (which I forgot to completely thaw and drain, oops!), a cheap store-brand cake mix and store-brand margarine. Cooked 4 hours on low. Had good flavor, although the middle wouldn’t set up, since I didn’t drain the peaches. We ate the edges while I let the middle cook an additional hour. Still too much water, but zapping each serving in the microwave tomorrow will take care of cooking the middle.
Recipe details is the only reason I knocked off 1 star.

Thank you! Your extra instructions really helped me.

Disappointing..I try not to leave negative reviews but this one really was disappointing. We were given some delicious fresh peaches from a neighbor so I decided to try this recipe to give our neighbor as a gift to say thank you. It was really disappointing. My husband and I decided not to give it to the neighbor because it really didn’t taste good at all. I am posting this review in the hope that it might prevent other people’s disappointment. Try a different recipe.
Patricia Velten says
Absolutely the worst peach cobbler I have ever had. If I could rate a zero I would. I spent a lot for the peaches, cake mix and butter. Had 2 bites and threw it out and then had a horrible messy crockpot to clean. One of the worst recipes ever !!!!! The topping was just gross. Tasted like you threw flour on top of peaches. Mushy, bad tasting, ecoensive, big mess!!
Shelby says
Ok, so as others have said, the recipe on here has some issues. The biggest issue is that if you combine the cake mix with the butter, it is does NOT give the crumbly texture described in the instructions above; instead, it is straight up dough.
The good news is that it’s an easy fix. I added almost 1 cup of all purpose flour to the cake and butter mixture, and it gave it the crumbly texture needed to sprinkle over the peaches. It will need to cook for exactly 3 hours, though.
I also substituted fresh peaches for Dole’s canned sliced peaches simply for convenience and drained any excess juice that was in the can before pouring into crockpot.
Hope this helps!

First time trying and it was delicious! Can this recipe be doubled?
Karen says
Yes for sure.
Ammy says
If doubling do you put all the peaches in first then add both cake boxes on top? I always slice my butter and place it on top of the cake mix and it always turns out great.
Karen says
Yes that’s what I would do but you’ll need to increase the cooking time because it will be much thicker and take longer to cook
StayathomeMom says
Yikes! I followed exactly as the recipe says and after 1.5 hours the edges were burning but the rest of the cake mix was still soggy and not done. I turned it down to low and after another 40 minutes the cake mix was still soggy. I’ve scooped it all out and put it in a casserole dish and put it in the oven hoping I can salvage it.
Marianne Brody says
i rated this two stars because i had a hard time making it. i got thru the peaches, peeling and cutting them. but the cake mix and butter were difficult because i wasn’t getting too many crumbly pieces. so i laid it on top of the peaches per instructions. i checked it after 2 hours on high. the peaches had cooked and got soft. but the cake mix was still where i left it on top of the peaches. only a tiny bit got brown on the edges. i obviously did something wrong. i am a slow cooker cook, but i never did a dessert. the peaches were delicious. the white cake mix was terrible. was i suppose to blend the cake mix with the peaches? perhaps someone could tell me what i did wrong. thank you, marianne

My cobbler has been cooking for hours in the Crock-Pot and the cake mix is too runny still, was really looking forward to this recipe but looks like I’m going to have to throw it out.
Karen says
Sorry! What kind of crockpot is it?
Virginia says
Can I make the peach cobbler with almond milk?
Karen says
Sure

Very delicious!!! Made thus before and everyone loved it. Apple works great and cherry does too. Thank you for the recipe.
Jennifer says
I made it yesterday with 2 cans of peaches. Drained them completely and cooked for exactly 2 hours on high. It came out so good!! I was wondering if this recipe could be used with 2 cans of apple pie filling? Do I need to use a different flavor cake mix or do anything differently? Would it need more time to cook?
Karen says
I bet you could totally do that. I would cook it exactly the same. Let me know how it turns out!
McKenna Salazar says
We do this with 2 can of cherry pie filling and the same cake mix all the time!
julie says
I made this with peaches and yellow cake mix added a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon and some oats…. Delicious…. Thanks for sharing the recipe 😊
Karen says
YUM!!!! I need to make this again soon.
BRENDA BOWMAN says
how much oats used?
Michael says
Someone please change the 2-3 hour cook time on high to just 2 hours… Burnt mine… I know the top says 2:15 prep and cook time, but in the prep area it says 2-3 hrs…
Middle will be bood i guess
Thanks
Karen says
Thanks for the tip, Michael!
Every slow cooker cooks differently. And some cook super hot and fast. So yes, be careful that it does not burn if you have a “hot” slow cooker.

This will be my first time to make in a crock pot. I’ve made many variations of this in a dutch oven while camping… Canned apples with a spice cake, canned cherries with chocolate cake, any variation is good ?
Karen says
cherries and chocolate sounds great!
Beth says
My cake topping g is mushy and I let it cook for 4 hours on low. Should I continue to let it cook in the slow cooker or put it in the oven?
Karen says
I would put it in the oven for a couple minutes!
Leisha Weaver says
I just made this…I can my own peaches so I used those and drained them well..amazing! Going to try with fresh blackberry's and top it on ice cream!

Leisha, that sounds amazing! The blackberries would be perfect, I think 🙂
Tameeka Jordan says
I'm going to use can peaches, how many cans should I use?
[email protected] says
I like lots of peaches so I would use 2 large cans. Make sure to drain them first!
Tameeka Jordan says
Do I need to add cinnamon to it? Or is it needed?
[email protected] says
If you'd like…not necessary though!
Rashea Cooper says
Why do I love this recipe? No oven..No heat! My sons loved the dish to bad my husband doesn't like peach cobbler. I would recommend this recipe to everyone!! I used can peaches pie filling also I've added a little crushed cashews delicious!! Thank you for this great recipe.
[email protected] says
Crushed cashews sounds amazing! Great idea. Will have to try next time for sure. Glad you like it 🙂

I'm about to use canned peaches should I drain completely
[email protected] says
yes drain them as much as you can!
Andy says
Why drain can peaches. I put 2 cans of sliced peaches with the syrup in my cooker with butter and 1 box of cake mix sprinkled over that with cinnamon and nutmeg cooked 3 hrs on high. Came out perfect. Yummy for my tummy. Why drain
Karen says
I was just thinking it would be too soggy but I’m so glad that it worked for you!
Katie Freeman says
Also, we've used fresh, frozen, and canned peaches for this. Works great every time.
Katie Freeman says
I've been making this recipe for years. It works with virtually any pie filling. I've personally tried making it with peach, cherry, and apple. It needs the tartness of the peaches or cherries, but apple is pretty good as well. You can use yellow or white cake mix. Some people melt the butter and pour it on, others mix melted but with cake mix before putting it on. I've always just cut up a stick of butter and scattered the pieces on top. This is WONDERFUL in a dutch oven over a campfire. That's actually the way my family used to make it before we figured out it works well in an oven or crockpot as well. You can pretty much do no wrong with this recipe. (I've known people who add nuts on top as well…not my thing, but I know a lot of people who would love that addition). I'm glad this recipe is online, as it's one of my favorites, and it's so simple!

THanks so much for you remarks! I love the dutch oven idea 🙂

I used a mix of fresh strawberries, white raspberries, and blueberries. Added a 1/4 cup water and 1 tsp. of almond extract. Mixed the room temp butter with spice cake mix. Used only a half stick of butter and half the cake mix. Absolutely delicious.

I made this yesterday and it was awesome!! Do you think it would work with fresh cherries?
[email protected] says
Jennifer, I think it would be delightful with cherries! Let us know how it turns out 🙂
Delaney Roberts says
Do you think this would work by subbing the butter with applesauce or greek yogurt?
[email protected] says
Sorry Delaney, but I don't think that would work at all! The butter gives it the flavor and it's really necessary 🙂
Carol Fleisher says
I made some with a gluten free cake mix too. It turned out great. Thanks for sharing

Hi Monica,
Glad you found my blog!
I bet apples would work! Yes, add some cinnamon in. I would use baking apples such as cortland, fuji, granny smith, rome beauties.
Good luck!

Hi, I found your website through an ad for Reynolds Wrap foil.
I made this Peach Cobbler last night.Peaches were on sale for $1.99 lb. Used white cake mix as directed and a Sri k of butter. Cooked it for about two hours, tried some, the cake part was still little mushy, but good. Gave it another hour and the cake took on the more golden color as in your photo. Some of the edges got a bit burnt so maybe two and a half to two and 45 min would be best for my crock pot.
Had a second helping and this was better. To me it tastes like the inside of a pie. My two sons enjoyed. Younger son had it fresh from the crockpot as a night snack and today we apportioned out some leftover and microwaved 30 sec. Yummy.
One question. Would this work for apples? I could see adding a tsp of cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg into the cake mix. What kind of Apple's would work best?
I will definitely make this Peach Cobbler again.
Cheryl says
I love the idea of slow cooking this for 2-3 hours. Not sure if I should buy canned, frozen peaches right now as fresh is not in season here.
[email protected] says
I would definitely use frozen if I was you!
Beth Anne Couponing for Vacation! says
I am going to attempt to make this tomorrow! Wish me luck although I bought yellow cake mix instead of white 🙁 oh well we'll see what happens and I bought frozen peaches instead of fresh b/c it was cheaper we'll see what we get and let you know how it turns out!
snccookinit says
How did it turn out? I am so excited to try this.

Beth Anne Couponing for Vacation! says
What about using Sliced Peaches in a can? Those are usually cheaper to buy…or will that make it too mushy?
Anonymous says
I would suggest that this is because of the condensation that occurs during slow cooker cooking. The paper towel is probably an attempt to keep the cobbler from getting too "mushy."

I'm also curious about the paper towel… Why is that needed?
Thanks!

It's used to keep the moisture level down in the crock pot
