Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Ingredients/Substitution Ideas
- 85/15 ground beef–or ground turkey
- Onion–I used frozen diced onions
- Water
- Better than Bouillon Beef Base–or bouillon granules
- Kosher salt
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Worcestershire sauce
- Ketchup–or BBQ sauce
- Green bell pepper–or red bell pepper
- Cornstarch–or arrowroot
- Provolone cheese–sliced or shredded
- Hamburger buns–or hoagie buns
Steps to make philly sloppy joes
- Brown the ground beef and onions using the sauté setting.
- Deglaze the pot to prevent burn error message.
- Dump in the beef base, salt, pepper, garlic powder, Worcestershire, ketchup and green pepper.
- Pressure cook for 2 minutes.
- Thicken, if needed, with a cornstarch slurry.
- Stir in the cheese until melted.
- Scoop onto toasted buns and serve.
Notes/Tips
- I used my 6 quart Instant Pot*. You can also make this in your 3 quart pot. For the 8 quart pot increase broth to 1 cup.
- My son loved his sandwich with yellow mustard and pickles…I do have to admit it was pretty amazing with these additions.
- If you’d rather you can leave the cheese out of the mixture and add it on top of individual sandwiches. Personally, I liked it mixed in and all melty.
- You can easily double this recipe to feed a crowd. Keep the same cooking time.
- Serve these sandwiches alongside a fruit salad, raw veggies and dip and potato chips.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container* for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or use the pot-in-pot method to reheat.

Just made this for dinner. It was delicious and so quick to make. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely make again.

So glad you liked it Carlene! Thanks for the 5 stars!
Raw . You brown the beef in the pot on saute. Hense the need to deglaze the pot.
There are no peppers or provolone cheese on or in a Philly cheese steak, it’s steak and cheese wiz, that is all. If you don’t believe me, go to Philadelphia and try that shit, you’ll get punched in the face. Never ever have those two ingredients been on a Philly cheese steak sandwich.
Imagine getting so worked up over a sandwich. You’ll be okay, Lucas. I promise.
I hate that I looked it up just to make sure I wasn’t talking out of turn but you can absolutely get provolone on a cheesesteak in Philly. Also both Pat and Geno’s have pepper cheesesteaks on their menu so…….
Can anyone tell me if you brown the ground beef first in the crockpot version? The way the instructions are written it looks like it goes in raw.
I didn’t brown it…it actually works pretty good either way!
Made tonight for a delicious, easy dinner! I used extra lean hamburger and next time, I’ll cut back on the salt and amount of water. Rather than mix the provolone into the mix, each serving was made with a slice of provolone on the bun. This may have meant my meat mixture was juicier than planned, but it was still full of flavor and yummy!

Nom nom sounds so great Kathy! Thanks for the 5 stars.
Philadelphia cheesesteak does not have green peppers on it they may do that in New York but not in Philadelphia
For crockpot version do you brown the ground beef or just put it in raw?
I added it in raw.
