Instant Pot Man Lovin Potatoes
I found a recipe online called man lovin potatoes and I had to stop and take a look. I adapted the recipe to the Instant Pot and changed a few ingredients as per my liking. The original author said, “I made these one night for a barbecue and all of the guys went nuts for it!” I do have to agree that the boys at my house ate at least half of the potatoes by themselves, if not more. They loved them!
I liked baking these in the oven, like a casserole. But you can do the whole recipe from start to finish in your Instant Pot with an air fryer lid, if you’d like.
Ingredients/Substitution Ideas
- Red potatoes–I used 6 medium red potatoes. You can also use another type of potato like Russets.
- Mayonnaise–just a little is used but it gives a bit of tang. You can also use miracle whip or plain yogurt.
- Sour cream–I used full fat
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Seasoned salt
- Black pepper
- Diced green onion–or red onion
- Bacon crumbles–I bought a package in the salad dressing aisle for sake of ease. You can also fry up some bacon and crumble it.
- Shredded cheddar cheese–I like shredding it off the block for best taste and meltability. Try another type of cheese like Colby or American.
- Parmesan cheese
Steps
- Prepare the potatoes and the Instant Pot: Wash the potatoes and thinly slice them (about a quarter inch). Place the sliced potatoes into a steamer basket*. Pour 1 ½ cups water into bottom of Instant Pot. Place the steamer basket into the Instant Pot.
- Pressure cook the potatoes: Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 1 minute. When time is up move the valve to venting and remove the lid. Set the steamer basket aside. Dump out the water and dry out the pot.
- Make the sauce: Add the potatoes into the Instant Pot liner. Stir the mayo, sour cream onion powder, garlic powder, seasoned salt, pepper, onions, bacon and half of the cheddar into the potatoes. Stir gently to coat.
- If you have an air fryer lid then place the lid on top and set the lid to 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Add the rest of the cheddar and the parmesan on top and bake for another 2-3 minutes.
- If you want to bake in the oven then scrape the potato mixture into a 8×8 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the cheeses on top. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes/Tips
- You can easily double the recipe. Double all the ingredients. Keep the amount of water beneath the steamer basket the same. Keep the cooking time the same.
- I kept the peels on the potatoes. I like the color and the texture!
- This is a delicious side dish you can serve alongside vegetables and ham, turkey, chicken, pork or steak.
- Try making this the main dish. You can stir in rotisserie chicken or cubes of ham and some steamed broccoli florets in when you make the sauce (step 3).
- I used my 6 quart Instant Pot* but you can also use an 8 quart pot.
- I like using my silicone steamer basket* for this recipe.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- This recipe is gluten-free!

Wow, this was really delicious. I made it in my Ninja and not in an instant pot, but there was no difference. I am sure I will repeat this recipe. Thank you for your work.
