Instant Pot Fried Chicken Rice

Each week I share something Instant Pot on YouTube. Subscribe to my YouTube channel to see the videos each week!

Today I shared how to make this fun Instant Pot KFC Rice recipe. The “recipe” really isn’t a recipe at all. It’s just adding rice, water/broth, soy sauce and one piece of fried chicken to your Instant Pot. After the rice is cooked you’ll scrape all the meat off of the bone and stir it in with the rice.

The piece of fried chicken gives the whole pot of rice a great flavor. If you want to get really crazy add in two pieces of chicken 😜 . This rice side dish is great with steamed veggies.

What type of rice can I use? In the video I used brown rice. However you definitely can use other types of rice. Just follow the cooking times and rice to liquid ratios in this green chart:

Description

You may have seen Japan’s rice cooker hack of adding a piece of KFC fried chicken in with your rice for lots of fried chicken flavor. Now you can make this viral sensation in your Instant Pot.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups uncooked rice (you choose which rice you want to use)
  • 2–3 cups broth or water (Liquid amount is dependent on which type of rice you use. See the green chart.)
  • 2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 fried chicken drumstick

Instructions

  1. Add rice, liquid, soy sauce and chicken to Instant Pot.
  2. Cover pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to the amount of time specified in the green chart. Follow the pressure release instructions in the chart as well.
  3. Remove the lid. Remove any meat and skin from the chicken that you can and stir into the rice. Discard the bone. Salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*.

    Hello Karen
First and foremost i want to thank you for all the amazing recipes you send out to us! They have never failed me. I would like to add veg soup mix to this recipe, should i add 1/2 c. veg. soup mix and reduce the rice by 1/2 a cup?
    Thank you

Tried it and it was amazing! I added 5 drumsticks because 1 would not be enough for my family of men.
Thank you for the great recipe

I loved this recipe but I think next time I will add some diced onion to cook with the rice and add the scrambled egg like Jaci said to do

Thank you ever so for this wonderful recipe. We love the Fried Chicken from Walmart, so I used a couple of pieces from our “ stash”. This was sooooo good, when I removed the chicken after it cooked in instant pot to shred I added 3 eggs that I scrambled in a bowl to cooked rice.
I stirred to let the eggs cook then I added the shredded chicken and topped with diced green onions. Very easy and very tasty! Hubby can make this when he is on road. Thank you again
    😊

I made this tonight using KFC thigh and breast. Hubby isn’t a fan of soy sauce so I used Hoisin Sauce instead and drizzled a bit extra on each serving. It was fantastic and was my first time making rice in my instant pot. Thank you Karen.

Since we don’t have KFC here, what about using Popeye’s fried chicken?

Have made this recipe a few times in my Zojirushi rice cooker using sushi grade rice. Not a fan of KFC but purposely bought few pieces of the spicy and added 2 thighs and a drumstick plus some Mirin with the soy sauce. When done, added frozen peas to complete the meal. Easy one pot meal for instant pot or rice cooker I’m sure your followers well enjoy

Can more chicken pieces be added. 1 drumstick doesn’t seem like much meat.
