Instant Pot Crumbly Burgers
I’ve made a few loose meat sandwiches before but these Instant Pot crumbly burgers with bacon and cheddar have to be my favorite! I love burgers but when it’s not grilling season or if I’m not in the mood to make hamburger patties this is an easy way to go!
With a bit of seasoning and a few crispy pieces of bacon these burgers are super flavorful and addicting. Greg is a meat and bun type of person but I love ALL the condiments to make it a perfect burger. To me a burger without a tomato isn’t a proper burger.
If you’re looking to make a low carb keto burger just serve the meat over shredded lettuce instead of on top of a bun.
Have you ever made homemade hamburger buns? They are sooo good! I love using this easy recipe! It only takes 40 minutes for a yeast dough hamburger bun.

Description
Lean ground beef is cooked in your Instant Pot or slow cooker with sea salt, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce to make a flavorful filling. It’s scooped onto a toasted bun and topped with cheddar, bacon, ketchup, mayo and pickles. An easy way to make burgers!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds extra lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 3/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 Tbsp pickle juice
- 8 strips of crisp bacon cut into pieces or crumbled
- Condiments: mustard, ketchup, cheddar slices, pickles, lettuce, mayonnaise, buns (toasted or not)
Instructions
- Turn your Instant Pot to the saute setting (MORE). When the display says hot add in the beef and break it up*. Add in the onion. Brown the beef and saute the onion for about 5 minutes. Drain off any grease. Then add in the sea salt, garlic powder and Worcestershire and stir to coat the beef. Add in the beef broth and pickle juice and scrape the bottom of the pot to deglaze.
- Cover the pot and secure the lid. Make sure the valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When the time is up let the pot sit for 5-10 minutes then move the valve to venting. Remove the lid.
- Stir in the bacon. Use a slotted spoon to scoop the meat mixture onto the buns. Top with desired condiments. Eat and enjoy!
Notes
To make in the slow cooker: Add beef, onion, salt, garlic powder, Worcestershire, ½ cup beef broth and pickle juice into your slow cooker. Break up the meat with a spoon. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours and then remove the lid and break it up more. Cover and cook on high for 2 more hours. Remove the lid, break up the meat. Stir in the bacon. Use a slotted spoon to scoop the meat mixture onto the buns. Top with desired condiments. Eat and enjoy!
I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*. If you make this in an 8 quart pot use 1.5 cups of beef broth. Keep the same recipe for the 3 quart Instant Pot.

Hi Karen,
I’ve recently bought an instant pot duo 8 model, it arrived with no cooking instructions and reading up on your different comments re water, doubling up etc. Please can you help me with a few tips to get me going.
Sure! Basically you can follow any recipe that’s made for the 6 quart pot. The only difference is that the 8 quart pot needs around 1.5 cups of liquid to come to pressure instead of the 1 cup required for the 6 quart pot. So if you’re making a soup recipe that calls for 5 cups of liquid you would just keep the recipe the same. But if you make a recipe that only has 1/2 cup of liquid you will need to increase that amount to around 1.5 cups. If you increase the liquid it might need more seasonings or thickeners like cornstarch. Hope this helps!
Karen could this be done from frozen ground meat? If so, any changes to cooking time? I know I won’t be able to brown it but anything else that would change? I look forward to giving these a try! Thank you for the suggestion. 🙂
If it’s super lean that should be fine to not brown it. I would use a 25 minute cooking time instead of 5.
Is there a reason you add the bacon after the meat is cooked? I use the pre cooked Hormel bacon crumbles I get it Costco.
Just so the texture is crispy 👍
