Bang Bang Beef Casserole

Bang Bang Beef Casserole

Greg and I scraped the pot clean after this one…sorry Skyler! We made the bang bang sauce to our liking so it wasn’t too spicy, but if you’re into heat you can totally crank it up. The flavor was so good. Just a little savory, tangy and sweet. The Instant Pot is a perfect way to cook this recipe. No extra pans, no hassle, just a super tasty dinner that hits the spot!

Ingredients/Substitution Ideas

  • Lean Ground Beef–or ground turkey
  • Low Sodium Soy Sauce–or Tamari
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Ground Ginger–or 1 Tbsp fresh minced ginger
  • Sriracha
  • Seasoned Rice Vinegar
  • Brown Sugar
  • Beef Broth
  • Jasmine Rice–or long grain white, parboiled
  • Mayo
  • Salt

Steps

Turn Instant Pot to sauté setting. When display says HOT add in the beef and break it up. Brown for 5 minutes. Drain off excess grease.

Stir in the soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, ginger, sriracha, rice vinegar and brown sugar.

Pour in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Turn off Instant Pot.

Sprinkle in the rice, don’t stir.

Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 10 minutes and then move valve to venting. Remove the lid and stir.

Stir together all ingredients for bang bang sauce.

Scoop rice/beef mixture onto plates and drizzle with some bang bang sauce and top with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes/Tips

  • Serve with steamed edamame, a cucumber salad or roasted broccoli. Egg rolls or potstickers make a great side too!
  • To make this gluten free use a gluten free soy sauce or tamari.
  • Make the bang bang sauce while the pot is coming to pressure to save time.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less sriracha to both the sauce and the beef mixture.
  • I used my 4 quart Instant Pot*. You can also make this in a 3, 6 or 8 quart pot.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Other recipes you can make with sriracha are Instant Pot Orange Chicken and Instant Pot Firecracker Chicken.

    Can I use basmati rice?

Yes, you can use basmati rice! It cooks very similarly to jasmine rice in the Instant Pot, so you can keep the same cook time and liquid amounts. The texture will be just a little fluffier, but it works great in this recipe.

If serving over riced cauliflower, how much liquid should I use? It sounds really good.!

    Looks good.
Does it have to be made in an instant pot or can it be made in a Dutch oven?

Hi, I don’t have an instant pot, however I’m going to make this and I’m going to use a skillet to brown the ground beef, drain off the fat. Put it in a crock pot, add the other ingredients, except the rice, and sauce ingredients. I’m going to put it on high for about 2 hours, taste it and then add the rice, following the instructions above, and cook until the rice is done according to the rice box directions. I don’t know if it’ll work out but I’m always converting instant pot recipes to crock pots, and they usually work. All recipes start with trial and error.
