One of my very favorite foods in the world is a perfectly ripe avocado. There’s nothing like the creamy taste of a smashed avocado on top of toast, spread on a sandwich, or diced up in a taco. My kids are also huge fans of avocados and love when I make them a piece of whole wheat toast with avocado and a poached egg on top. To me, it’s the perfect breakfast. I love avocados so much I even have a whole pinterest board dedicated to them.
The good thing about avocados is although they feel indulgent they are actually really healthy for you. According to a survey by Fresh Avocados – Love One Today®, over 75% of the fat in avocados is unsaturated (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats), making them a great substitute for foods high in saturated fat. That’s why I love using smashed avocados in the place of mayonnaise or cheese. So versatile, fresh avocados can be used in any meal or dish. They can be used as a recipe substitute for bad fats, a way to add naturally good fats, a nutrient-dense fruit to add nutrient value, and as a vegan or vegetarian possible alternative to dairy products.
