Kid Tested Casserole
Whenever I ask my son what he wants for dinner he almost always says this meal! He loves the cheesy shells and sausage and can’t get enough. I do have to agree that it is a tasty meal! It comes together quite quickly and you don’t need a ton of ingredients either. I added in a few seasonings to give it a bit more flavor and you can get creative at home with what you like best. You can even throw in some veggies if your kids aren’t offended by them 😉 Enjoy!
Ingredients/Substitution Ideas
- Butter
- Beef smoked sausage–or kielbasa
- Chicken broth–or beef broth
- Ground mustard
- Smoked paprika
- Black pepper
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Chili powder
- Barilla medium shells pasta–or another short cut pasta
- Cheddar cheese–I like medium or sharp
- Milk
Steps
Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the butter and let it melt. Add in the sausage and brown it for 3-4 minutes.

Pour in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Turn off Instant Pot.
Add in the ground mustard, paprika, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder and shells. Don’t stir.

Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5-10 minutes and then move valve to venting. Remove the lid.

Stir in the cheese and milk until cheese is melted.

Serve and enjoy!

Just for my own IP learning why “do not stir”?
Burn message, let the liquid be on the bottom as it boils up to produce pressure. If the noodles were on the bottom it would burn or stick to the bottom of the pot.
so you prevent the burn error message. It’s explained here: https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/the-instant-pot-burn-message/
