Instant Pot Ikea Meatballs
Ikea is an overwhelming store to me. It’s like you get stuck in a maze and can’t get out until you go through every single section of the store. I do love browsing Ikea but I also know that once I’m in there it is NOT going to be a quick trip of run in, grab something, checkout and be done. It’s going to be a 2-hour ordeal. For a person who hates shopping this is something I have to prep myself for. However, the meatballs in the cafeteria make this whole experience worth it!
Have you tried Ikea’s Swedish meatballs with the creamy gravy? They are super delicious! These meatballs are tiny, half ounce meatballs that are fun to eat since you can eat quite a few. They taste great served with mashed potatoes. My Instant Pot/Crockpot version taste just as good! You will love eating this for dinner any night of the week and the bonus is that you won’t have to wander through a the maze-like store to eat them…lol.
- I used my 6 quart Instant Pot*. You can also make this in the 8 quart pot, or halve the recipe in the 3 quart.
- I placed the formed meatballs on top of my OXO sling/trivet*. The little sections in the silicone trivet were the perfect size to fit each meatball.
- I like to serve these meatballs with mashed potatoes. I ended up taking the easy route and used instant mashed potatoes. However you can make mashed potatoes in a separate Instant Pot if you’d like instead! Another choice is to serve the meatballs and sauce over buttered egg noodles.
- Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Instant Pot Ikea Meatballs
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 5 minutes (plus 5 minute NPR)
- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
Description
Tender and delicious bite size meatballs with savory cream gravy. They taste just like what you can order at Ikea!
Ingredients
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 pound 85/15 ground beef
- 3/4 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp olive oil
- 3 Tbsp melted butter
- 6 Tbsp flour
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Instant Pot Instructions:
- Pour broth, soy sauce and Dijon into Instant Pot. Whisk.
- Add a trivet into the Instant Pot (I used the OXO Silicone Sling* and it worked perfectly).
- Add beef, pork, onion, garlic bread crumbs, egg, milk, kosher salt, pepper and olive oil into a medium bowl. Use clean hands to combine well.
- Form into small half ounce meatballs (about 1-2 tablespoons). I used a small cookie scooper to help. Roll the balls and place on top of the trivet. Most of the meatballs will be in one layer but some will have to be stacked on top.
- Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5-10 minutes and then move valve to venting. Remove the lid.
- Carefully remove the meatballs (I lifted up the sling and placed it on a plate).
- In a small bowl stir together the melted butter and flour with a whisk. Add in cream a little at a time and whisk well.
- Turn Instant Pot to sauté setting. Add in the flour mixture a little at a time, whisking well. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, until sauce is thickened and raw flour smell is gone. Turn off Instant Pot.
- Taste gravy and salt and pepper to taste. Stir the meatballs into the gravy. Serve meatballs and gravy with potatoes, rice or noodles.
Slow Cooker Instructions:
- In a small bowl add the melted butter and whisk in the flour, one tablespoon at a time. Then whisk in a cup of the broth until the mixture is smooth. Pour the mixture into the slow cooker. Add in the remaining broth, soy sauce and Dijon. Whisk well.
Roll the balls and place in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours.
- Stir in the heavy cream. Taste gravy and salt and pepper to taste. Serve meatballs and gravy with potatoes, rice or noodles.

should I adjust the time on low if I double the recipe? I think it said 4 hours low , but was wondering if I should do a little more
For the slow cooker you may want to add an additional hour if doubling the recipe.
Meatballs are great! The gravy came out way too thick and bland. I followed directions and measurements exactly. I’m not sure where I went wrong.

Can you use frozen meatballs?
yes!
I’ve never been to IKEA but this recipe is phenomenal! I will never make Swedish meatballs any other way again. It came together so quickly in the instant pot.

WOO HOOO!!! Thanks so much for the 5 stars!
Is there an error in step 1 of slow cooker directions? It says pour the mixture into the instant pot.
yes that was a typo! It’s supposed to say slow cooker.
Can I use ground turkey instead of the pork? Would the pressure cook time remain the same?
Yes same time 🙂
Karen, I made this for supper tonight and we really enjoyed the meal. I can never make gravy without lumps but this time it turned out great. I had to use regular soy sauce (didn’t have low sodium) and didn’t have Dijon mustard so I sort of made up some at last minute. Lol. It was great! We will definitely be cooking this again. Thank you so much for the recipe.

So glad it worked out and no lumps! That is a win!
Dear Karen,
I really enjoyed when you posted the picture of each step and step-by-step instructions. Looking at your pictures is easier for me to see and hopefully duplicate your delicious meals. Thank you for cooking!

I liked it too. The app I used to create it has now “shut its doors.” I am trying to find a good replacement. In the meantime if you watch the little videos that I make to go along with the recipes you will be able to see the steps.
