Instant Pot Garlic Butter Corn on the Cob
I am so happy to have discovered that you can make corn on the cob in the Instant Pot. And it is SO fast and easy! This is a complete game changer for me. I never know how long to boil corn and it always seems to get overdone. Now I can get perfect corn every single time.
Plus with a teeny tiny bit of extra effort you can make that corn go from good to great by whipping up some garlic butter. My family inhaled this corn they loved it so much.
The only “special” equipment you need to make this instant pot garlic butter corn on the cob is a trivet. The corn is steamed, not boiled, so it’s good to lift it out of the water in the bottom of the pot. My Instant Pot came with a trivet. You can also order one on Amazon*.
I challenge you to use your Instant Pot to make corn this week. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

What Pressure Cooker Did You Use?
To make Instant Pot Garlic Butter Corn on the Cob I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*. I love this Instant Pot because it has the yogurt making function which I use almost weekly. It has two pressure settings (high and low), and there are also little slots in the handles so that you can rest the lid there instead of putting it down on your counter-top.
Instant Pot Garlic Butter Corn on the Cob
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 2 minutes
- Total Time: 17 minutes
- Yield: 4–6 servings 1x
Description
Sweet corn is slathered with garlic, butter, salt and pepper. The easiest and tastiest corn on the cob! You’ll never go back boiling corn on the stove again.
Ingredients
- 4–6 ears of corn, husked
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbsp soft, melty butter
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
Instructions
- Pour water into the bottom of the Instant Pot. Place trivet in the Instant Pot.
- Place corn on top of the trivet. Lay it on top of each other crosswise.
- Cover the pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 2 minutes on high pressure. When the time is up perform a quick release by moving the valve to venting. Remove the lid.
- Make the garlic butter by stirring together the butter, garlic, salt, pepper and parsley until smooth. Slather the butter on the corn on the cob and enjoy.
Notes
I used my 6 quart Instant Pot. If you use an 8 quart pot change the water to 1 ½ cups.
To make in the slow cooker: Place corn in slow cooker and pour in 1/2 cup water. Cook on high for 2 to 3 hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours, until the corn is tender. Use a pair of tongs to transfer the corn onto a plate. Make the garlic butter by stirring together the butter, garlic, salt, pepper and parsley until smooth. Slather the butter on the corn on the cob and enjoy.

If I double the recipe do I have to adjust the time? This would be great for a family gathering on July 4th.
Karen says
Nope! Keep the same cooking time. https://www.365daysofcrockpot.com/how-to-double-instant-pot-recipes/

2mins didn’t work for me either, Set for another 5 minutes, we’ll see…

The first time I made this, I used 2 minutes, but the corn wasn’t done. Last night I cooked it for 3 minutes and it was just right. I live in high altitude state so that was probably the issue.
Karen says
Glad you made it work for you!
Pat Nelson says
Easy and yummy! Definitely will not fix it any other way!
Karen says
Glad you liked it!
Mel says
Karen, do you think you could use the frozen corn on the cob (half ears), without defrosting them? If so, would that change the pressure cooker time? I would think not, but it would just take longer to come to pressure…Or do you think I would need to add time?
Love your recipes!
Karen says
I bet it would work as you said!
Judi says
I tried frozen corn with these instructions and they came out ice cold. 😢
Karen says
good to know!
J Jo says
Karen, I’ve wondered a lot about this: When using products that have been in the refrigerator, such as meats, eggs, or … whole heads of cauliflower, cabbage…CORN ON THE COB, etc. …does this affect the times in the Instant Pot? Does the food item need to be a room temp to achieve the best results? Thanks for your reply. : )
Karen says
This is a good question and I haven’t really considered it. I would say it doesn’t matter much. The room temp items would come to pressure quicker. The colder the foods the longer it would take to come to pressure.
Karen Tolbert says
Super yummy!! My husband wasn’t a fan of the garlic so I will adjust that a bit for him next time. As for me – it was perfect.! Thanks
Karen says
Oh man I love garlic. But I guess not everyone is like me.
Maya says
Is it raw garlic put on after the corn is cooked? Does the garlic get cooked at all?
Karen says
It is raw garlic. If that’s too strong for you you could use a little garlic powder.
Nancy Fairchild says
THis was so-o easy and the corn came out perfectly. The instant pot was made for vegetables! And other things!
Karen says
I’m glad you tried it. It is a game changer!
