One of my most popular posts last year was 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Slow Cooking. I shared how to get off crusty cooked on stains, how tapioca is a great thickener, why I use paper towels for baking and more. I felt that it was appropriate to add a 2nd edition for all you peeps out there that love your slow cooker and want to have the best results possible! So here you are, friends, 5 more tips and tricks to help you become a slow cooker connoisseur.
P.S. Like this tip? Find all my kitchen tips here.

So… What’s the reason you use tapioca for the bbq, and paper towels for breads? Could you just use paper towels for both?
(All 10 tips are great… Thanks!:) )
Karen says
tapioca is actually going to thicken the sauce and the paper towels just make sure liquid doesn’t drip onto the baked good.

I have learned so much from the two videos I watched on here 🙂 I am planning on making shredded bbq using butt roast and will be using tapioca or flour to thicken the sauce!

Could you please tell me who makes those inserts and are they something that can fit into other crockpots, or are they bought inside of a specific crockpot?
Thank you 🙂

They were from a Hamilton Beach slow cooker that I had from a long time ago. They fit nicely into my other 6 quart slow cookers. I'm not sure you could find them anymore. Sorry that I'm not more helpful!
