Worm Casserole–a savory Instant Pot pasta made with French onion soup, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon, and cheese.

Worm Casserole
Before you are too grossed out by the title of this recipe hear me out…it’s really yummy, I promise. The “worms” are just broken up spaghetti. My sister used to say that she thought mushrooms taste like dirt so I guess the “worms” feel right at home with the sliced mushrooms. This is spaghetti with a little zhuzh. The pasta is boiled in the french onion soup so it gets infused with flavor. Then the bacon and goat cheese (or parmesan) finish off the dish so perfectly. I had two bowls of this!
Ingredients/Substitution Ideas
- Campbell’s French onion soup–find it next to other canned soups
- Spaghetti–whole wheat spaghetti is fine
- Mushrooms
- Crushed tomatoes
- Garlic powder
- Butter
- Bacon crumbles
- Goat cheese–or parmesan cheese (I used a little of each)
Steps
Pour soup and water into bottom of Instant Pot. Break the spaghetti into 2 inch pieces and scatter it in the pot.

Layer the mushrooms over the top.

Dump the tomatoes evenly over the top. Add in the garlic powder and butter. Don’t stir.

Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 4 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5 minutes and then move the valve to venting. Remove the lid.

Stir in the bacon and cheese.

Serve and enjoy!

Notes/Tips
- Serve with salad and garlic bread.
- Want more protein? Add in a half pound of browned ground turkey or ground beef (add a little salt and pepper to the meat to season).
- Want more veg? Add in a grated carrot and a cup of spinach.
- I used my 6 quart Instant Pot*. You can also make this in a 3 or 8 quart pot. This recipe can easily be doubled.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container* in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Other recipes you can make with goat cheese are Instant Pot Creamy Polenta with Roasted Tomatoes and Instant Pot Magic Meal.

I can’t wait to try this! Looks de-lish! (worms don’t bother me, I use worms to catch fish & I love fish) Will be back with stars. I don’t have any Campbells soup but I do have the Lipton’s dry…will mix that with some beef broth & try that.
okay! Let me know how you like it!
Sounds good but I would have to go with a French Onion soup other than Campbell’s. All Campbell’s products use bio-Engineered ingredients and I don’t do GMO foods!
that would work!
Very cool, thanks!
Could the mushrooms be omitted, or should something else be substituted instead?
try a cup or two of shredded cabbage
could you make this in a slow cooker instead?
I’d be skeptical on using the slow cooker for this particular recipe. I’m not sure how the spaghetti would turn out.
thanks 👍
