Flooring Before and After Reveal–Wood Looking Tile

If you follow me on Instagram you may remember that I was replacing my kitchen floors a while back. Well today is the big before and after reveal! I don’t know about you but I absolutely love it.

tearing out wood floors

Some people thought we were crazy to tear out hardwood floor but I have never loved it and wasn’t excited about any of the re-staining options.

From oak wood flooring to wood looking tile in the kitchen. It doesn't scratch and it's very durable. I love the look of the tile with the light color with lots of grays and browns

About a year ago we went into a local flooring store here in Utah and fell in love with some tile. We thought about it for a long time. And then finally decided to go for it. Instead of going to the original store though, we went to our favorite flooring store, Buy Direct (in Layton, Utah). We purchased our carpet from them a couple of years ago and also our tile for our backsplash (before and afters here).

They were able to hook us up with a good deal on the tile and provide contractors to install the tile as well. It’s awesome to have a one-stop shop like that.

The tile is called Treyburne Antique Chateau from Mohawk Flooring. It has the warm look of wood but the convenience of tile. I love tile because it doesn’t scratch. I also love that I don’t have to worry about water getting on it. And considering it was installed in my kitchen, two bathrooms and laundry room that’s pretty important.

I also love how much this particular color of the tile brightens up my home so much. My living space is on the east side of the house so after the morning is over it’s pretty dark in there. I so appreciate this light color to brighten things up.

The tile layers did a wonderful job. Like I said, there was quite a bit of space to cover. We did our kitchen, laundry, entry, 2 bathrooms and hallway. We halfway considered getting some friends and doing it ourselves but I am SO happy that we didn’t do that. Oh my, it was so much work! Just watching the workers made me tired.

We also opted to go for the varying widths of tile. One thick, two thin. And we chose a gray grout color that blends in really well.

I really love how everything just flows through our house now. I am so glad we got it done! If you’re thinking of doing some house projects and you live in Utah make sure to visit Buy Direct Custom Flooring. Talk to Mark and he will help you out! The address is 1604 West Hillfield Road Layton, UT 84041 and the phone number is 801-444-7350.

*I was given a small discount on my tile purchase in exchange for my review. As always, all opinions are my own.

Karen, I am using this tile in my master and am having a hard time deciding on a vanity color. Want a little rustic, should I use a darker or lighter color? Looks a little darker down than I thought it would on your pix, but this is great that you did this and I love. I am torn on which color to pull out.
    Thanks,
    Jen

I really think you could go either way. Dark or light, brown or gray. That’s why I love this floor because it has so many tones in it.

I used this time throughout my house, except the bedrooms.

I’m having a tough time deciding on what color to paint my walls.

I’m not a gray color person.

Any ideas from the other people that used this tile

Thanks for your post. We are putting this throughout our entire home. How wide are your grout lines? Did the contractors use spacers between the tiles?

The grout lines are really thin. And yes they used spacers.

Have almost completed my entire downstairs except master bath in this tile. (2100 Sq ft) ripped out very traditional wood flooring in a chestnut color throughout. I was worried about finding something that goes with both greys and browns. This is it!! Love how much brighter my house is! Thanks for sharing your before and after pictures!

It’s a greige type color that was in the home when we moved it. I didn’t pick it out but I really like it. Unfortunately they didn’t leave any leftover paint so I don’t know what color it is or what brand 🙁

I took a sample of the tile home and stumbled upon this looking for what a room would look like. I love the way your house looks. I think I’m going to have to paint after its down. What color are your walls?

They are kind of a greige (gray/beige) I really like this color. Very neutral.

We are thinking about using this tile in our home as well. It would be the entire 1st floor, almost 1200 sqft. I am tossed between the colors Chateau and Armaretto in the Mohawk antique tile brand. I really like the Chateau but was concerned that it might be to light when covered in such a big area. Wanted to get your opinion on this?

I really love ours! I like the light color, but that is just my personal preference. Ours looks clean even when it isn’t!

I have looked at the Antique Amaretto as well…make sure you look at 6-7 tiles at the same time…I found it quite dark and my fear is that the chateau might be too light…going in my beach condo

        Good suggestion.
There is a lot of variation between tiles too. so it’s good to look at a large sample.

This looks great! I prefer tile in the kitchen, too, and although the wood didn’t look too bad, this tile looks much more unique and interesting.

I like how there are no gaps between tiles, suppose it’s really easy to clean.

That turned out very pretty! I did notice how it makes things brighter in your house, even with the blinds closed. I never knew there was tile that looked like that, or that you could use it throughout your house. We have tile in our kitchen and entry way, and it’s pretty easy to keep clean.

It is lovely, but, then again, so was the wood. Why did you decide to replace the wood?? Also, are there heating elements under the tile–it is so cold under-foot. I am considering wooden flooring–replacing simple vinyl flooring placed in my condo when built…..

Well, I didn’t like the color of the wood and it was pretty beat up. We thought about restaining the wood but wanted to tear out the carpet in the hallway and didn’t want to have to match the wood. I really have always liked tile because it is so easy to clean and it holds up well with water in kitchens and bathrooms, doesn’t scratch etc. I love the look of this tile so we went for it. There are no heating elements under the tile but I’m always wearing socks or slippers so it doesn’t bother me.

Hi Karen – we’re thinking of doing the Antique Chateau but want to know grout color you chose as it seems to be a dilemma and grout width. If I had my choice, there would be no grout at all but with tile it’s a must! Yours looks great! So would appreciate your input!
        Thanks so much!
