If you’ve cooked a lot in your slow cooker, you’ll notice that by the end of cooktime your meal might be soupy and runny. This is because nothing evaporates in the slow cooker, so all the condensation drips onto your food. This little trick works like a charm for me and I use it all the time. Just mix 1 Tbsp of cornstarch with 1 Tbsp of water in a little bowl and stir until smooth. Then the last 30 minutes of cooktime take off the slow cooker’s lid, turn it to HIGH, and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Leave it on high without the lid on and by the time you’re ready to eat, it should be a nice, thicker consistency.
I found my favorite thickening by accident. To the ingredients in the crockpot I just sprinkle in instant potato flakes and stir. Just shake in enough to make it as thick as you like. (Adds nutrition, as well)
