And the winner of matchup #22 between the sweet and spicy ribs and the bbq meatballs is….
The Sweet and Spicy Ribs!
We caught up with side-line reporter, Jody, after the game and this is what she had to say about the tense match-up…
Results for the Meatballs and Ribs are in, and I would have to say we had a buzzer beater at our house! Although it was a very close race {one of my boys made a very good argument!}…the Ribs won! We loved both meals, and would make either one again. I have VERY picky eaters in my house, but they each tried them both. However the ribs got more second helpings then the meatballs.
I followed each recipe and would not change either one. To be fair I used the same brand and type of barbeque sauce in both recipes.
For the meatballs I used my own recipe for the meatballs instead of the frozen ones from Costco. I also have my own cranberry sauce made from fresh cranberries in the freezer that I used. I served them over rice. I personally felt like these were a bit flat on the flavor, but because ALL my kids ate them I felt like they were good enough. I guess I was just expecting more of a contrasting flavor like a sweet and sour recipe would give. They were however better the next day for lunch.
I was a bit skeptical about the ribs at first. I couldn’t believe you needed 5 CUPS of barbeque sauce. I had also never used Cajun seasoning before. I was only going to add half of the seasoning because I was not for sure my kids would eat it, however I then reminded myself that I must follow the recipe to make an honest opinion. I am so glad I did! After cooking all day, and smelling that wonderful aroma in my WHOLE house I must say it needed the Cajun seasoning. It gave depth and compexity. We did not use the reserved sauce in the fridge so maybe half the recipe on the sauce would be alright…one of my kids said they were too saucy in the end. But you wouldn’t want them to dry out when cooking all day, so maybe that amount of sauce it truly good. I served them “Famous Dave’s” style on toast.
All in all the Ribs were the winner at our house.
