Description

Noodles, cabbage, onions, smoked sausage and pierogies all in one dish. Make it fast in the Instant Pot. 


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 (12 oz) package beef smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounces old fashioned wide egg noodles (I used Mrs. Miller's brand in the stand up bag)
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage
  • Kosher salt and pepper
  • 12 Mrs. T's frozen pierogis

Instructions

  1. Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the butter and let it melt. Add in the onion and sausage and saute for 3-4 minutes. 
  2. Pour in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Turn off Instant Pot.
  3. Sprinkle in the noodles and cabbage. Add a big pinch of salt and pepper. 
  4. Place a tall trivet* in the pot. Place a pan* on top of the trivet. Add in a tablespoon of water. Place the pierogis in the pan. If you don’t have a trivet and pan then you can cook the pierogies in a different way as stated on the package. 
  5. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5-10 minutes and then move valve to venting. 
  6. Remove the pan and trivet and stir the pierogis into the pot. 
  7. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe can easily be halved. Cut all ingredients in half but keep the cooking time the same.
