Is the insert placed inside a water bath? If not, I didn't think it was good for your crockpot to be turned on "dry". I'm thinking you put the insert inside the crockpot dry and fill the insert with the oatmeal ingredients.

Yum! I am going to try your version. I have a multi-grain hot cereal that I do in the slow cooker and we love it at our house. If interested, it's on my blog. http://www.mimisfitfoods.com. Thanks for your recipes!

If you put one cup steel cup oats in the crockpot with about 3 cups of water (give or take a little depending on how you like them) and turn the pot on before bed on WARM they are perfect everytime in the morning. You don't need a water bath or anything extra pot inside the crockpot.
