Description
Beans and smoked sausage in a sweet and savory sauce made in the Instant Pot, on the stove or in a slow cooker.
Ingredients

- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup minced onion
- 1 (12 oz) package beef smoked sausage, sliced
- 2 (15 oz) cans Great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp spicy brown mustard
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
Instant Pot Instructions:
- Turn Instant Pot to saute setting (“more”). When display says HOT add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes. Turn off Instant Pot.
- Stir in the beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer on the saute (“less”) setting for 10 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy.
Stove Instructions:
- Heat a pan over medium high heat. Add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes.
- Turn heat to low. Stir in the beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste. Cover with a lid and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy.
Crockpot Instructions:
- Heat a pan over medium high heat. Add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes. Transfer to the slow cooker.
- Stir beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hour.
- Serve and enjoy.
