Description

Beans and smoked sausage in a sweet and savory sauce made in the Instant Pot, on the stove or in a slow cooker.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup minced onion
  • 1 (12 oz) package beef smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 (15 oz) cans Great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp spicy brown mustard
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

Instant Pot Instructions:

  1. Turn Instant Pot to saute setting (“more”). When display says HOT add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes. Turn off Instant Pot.
  2. Stir in the beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer on the saute (“less”) setting for 10 minutes. 
  3. Serve and enjoy.

Stove Instructions:

  1. Heat a pan over medium high heat. Add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes. 
  2. Turn heat to low. Stir in the beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste. Cover with a lid and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Serve and enjoy.

Crockpot Instructions:

  1. Heat a pan over medium high heat. Add in the oil and swirl around. Add in the onion and saute for 3 minutes. Add in the sausage and fry with the onion for about 3 more minutes. Transfer to the slow cooker.
  2. Stir beans, tomato sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt and pepper to taste into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hour.
  3. Serve and enjoy.
