Description

Seasoned hamburger patties served over egg noodles and then drizzled with white country gravy.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the beef patties:

  • 1 pound 85/15 ground beef (for lots of flavor use half ground beef and half ground sausage)
  • 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil

For the egg noodles:

  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 3 cups water or broth

For the gravy:

  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 5 Tbsp flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • Pinch ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl add the ground beef, panko bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, kosher salt, onion powder and garlic powder. Mix with clean hands until combined. Form into 4 patties.
  2. Turn Instant Pot to saute (more) setting. When display says HOT add in the vegetable oil and swirl around. Add in the patties and brown for about 4 minutes on each side. Carefully move patties to a pot-in-pot dish. Set aside.
  3. Add 3 cups water or broth into Instant Pot and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Add in the egg noodles. Place a tall trivet into Instant Pot and place pot-in-pot dish with hamburger steaks on top of the trivet.
  4. Cover Instant Pot and make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 2 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5 minutes and then move valve to venting. Remove lid.
  5. Set hamburger patties aside. Drain noodles in a colander and set aside.
  6. Turn Instant Pot to sauté setting. Add in the butter and melt. Whisk in the flour until smooth and creamy. Slowly add in the milk, a little at a time, whisking as you add it in. Stir in the cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Let gravy thicken then turn off Instant Pot. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hamburger steaks over egg noodles and covered with gravy.
