Description

Cooked shredded cabbage enveloped in a creamy white sauce and topped with buttery breadcrumbs made in your Instant Pot.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shredded green cabbage
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 Tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 ½ cups of water into bottom of Instant Pot. Add cabbage into steamer basket*. Drop the basket into bottom of pot. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 3 minutes. When time is up move valve to venting and remove the lid. Move steamer basket out of the pot and discard the water.
  2. Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. Add in the butter and let it melt. Slowly whisk in the flour. Then slowly whisk in the milk. Stir until the mixture thickens. Stir in the salt and pepper. Turn off Instant Pot.
  3. Stir the cabbage into the white sauce. Then sprinkle the cheese on top.
  4. In a small bowl stir together the breadcrumbs and the melted butter. Then sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top of the cabbage. Use an air fryer lid to bake the casserole for 10 minutes at 325 degrees. Once crumbs are browned, serve and enjoy.

Notes

If you don’t have an air fryer lid you can layer the cabbage and white sauce in a small baking dish. Top with cheese and finally buttered breadcrumbs. Bake at 300 degrees for 15 minutes.
