Description
This Amish cake is an old-fashioned, one-bowl chocolate cake that bakes up super moist and soft with the easiest batter. No eggs are needed to make this cake!

For the cake:
- 2 cups white sugar
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 6 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup canola or vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- 2 Tbsp white vinegar
- 2 cups cold water
Chocolate frosting (optional):
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
Oven Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Whisk sugar, flour, salt, baking soda and cocoa in a large mixing bowl.
- Make a large well in the center and pour in the oil, vanilla, vinegar and water. Stir with a rubber scraper until combined into a smooth batter.
- Spray a 9×13 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray and pour the batter into the pan. Bake for 30 minutes.
- Prepare the frosting. Bring the butter, milk and cocoa to a boil over medium heat. Stir well with a whisk. Remove from heat. Whisk in the salt, powdered sugar and the vanilla. When frosting is smooth spread it on the cooled cake.
Slow Cooker Instructions:
- Spray a 6 quart oval slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
- Whisk sugar, flour, salt, baking soda and cocoa in a large mixing bowl.
- Make a large well in the center and pour in the oil, vanilla, vinegar and water. Stir with a rubber scraper until combined into a smooth batter.
- Pour the batter into the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on high for about 3 hours, or until cooked through.
- Prepare the frosting. Bring the butter, milk and cocoa to a boil over medium heat. Stir well with a whisk. Remove from heat. Whisk in the salt, powdered sugar and the vanilla. When frosting is smooth spread it on the cooled cake.
