5 Best Ways to Use the Instant Pot

Today I’m sharing with you a video from my YouTube channel. Have you subscribed to my channel yet? If you love your Instant Pot subscribe now! Every week I post a new Instant Pot video.

Notes from the video:

#1: Caramelized onions–2 onions cut into chunks, 1 Tbsp butter, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper. Stir around for 5 minutes on the saute setting. Then an 8 minute pressure cook time with a quick release. Strain excess liquid. You can easily use more onions than two. Freeze leftovers in an airtight container to use whenever you need a recipe to have a pop of flavor.

#2: Quinoa–1 cup rinsed quinoa and 1.5 cups water. 1 minute cooking time with a 10 minute natural pressure release. Read the whole recipe.

#3: Whole Chicken–1 whole chicken, 1 cup water, 1 bay leaf, 2 Tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp dried rosemary, 1 tsp dried sage, 1/2 tsp dried thyme, 1 Tbsp kosher salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder. 6 minute per pound (6 pound chicken will be 36 minutes) with a 10 minute natural pressure release.

#4: Dried beans–Quick soak method: add 1 pound of beans to Instant Pot. Add in 4 cups water. Bring to a boil on the saute setting. Once it is boiling cover the pot and set the pressure cook/manual button to 2 minutes. When time is up perform a quick release. Rinse and strain the beans, now they are “soaked.”

Here is a chart of how I cook dried beans (printable Instant Pot beans chart here):

Have you tried anything with Multigrain setting? I have a bag of Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grains and Beans Soup Mix and would love to Instant Pot it. Not sure if I should. I’ve used several of your recipes with great success.
    Thanks.

I love it for making stock. I like to BBQ so I’ll typically do my whole chickens on the Q. After dinner toss the carcass and bones into the IP set it for 4 hours and go to bed. In the morning strain through cheesecloth and you’re good to go.

You just hit my current FS … favorite subject … good stock. You didn’t mention anything about seasoning or veggies. To me, stock has to have the holy trinity … onion, carrot and celery and it has to have seasonings beyond S&P. What do you use for the “extra’s”?

Are you pressure cooking for 4 hours? Or is it slow cooker?

No liquid listed for carmelized onions. Doesn’t the inner pot need deglazing and liquid for pressure?

Veggies have so much water you typically don’t need to add any.

It works! The onions put off a lot of liquid so you don’t need to add any ๐Ÿ™‚

After a stroke I no longer have use of my left hand and arm. So I sympathize! I use tongs a lot and usually cut big pieces of in half so i can handle it with one hand!
