Last year, I really only tried every recipe I did one time. I’m going back lately and catching up on some that I loved the first time. Last week I made Day 311 Cranberry Raisin Steel Cut Oats it was delicious the second time as well. I put them in my slow cooker at about 11:45 pm and turned it to warm at 7 am. They were plenty done but still tasted great. I had enough to feed me for breakfast for the whole week. I also have made the Garlic Lime Chicken two times in the past 2 weeks. I changed it by using chicken thigh tenderloins instead of the bone-in thighs and it is delicious. I highly recommend them for use in the slow cooker. When cooked they are the perfect size and I just throw them in the slow cooker frozen. I buy mine at Walmart and they are the Tyson brand. The first 100 degree day of the year I decided there was no way that I was going to turn on my oven to make bake potatoes. So I just poked the potatoes with a fork, covered them in foil and dumped them in the crockpot. I cooked the on HIGH for about 4 hours. No heat in my kitchen but I got to eat delicious baked potatoes with butter and sour cream for dinner.
Have you ever had "jacket potatoes"…potatoes wrapped in foil and thrown into the charcoal of a bbq? Those are delicious, and don't involve an oven. (and I don't own a crockpot, or else I'd say your no-oven technique is genius and I would have tried it).
i will have to try that idea of foiled potatoes in the crock pot.
