I’m not a morning person. At all. But for the past 10 days I’ve been waking up many times between the hours of 3 and 6 am because I’m just too excited to sleep. My husband will see me on my computer at 5:30 am bewildered at my sudden enthusiasm for mornings. “I just couldn’t sleep any longer! I’m so excited.” What is all the excitement about? Well, I’ll tell you. I’m starting a podcast!! With my friend, Heidi. And it’s going to be awesome.
What is a podcast? It’s like a talk radio program that is on the internet. You can download the podcast onto your phone and listen to it whenever it’s convenient. And once it’s downloaded you don’t even have to have the internet to listen to it. This makes podcasts perfect for commuting or plane rides. If you have an iphone you already have the podcast app on there. Podcasts are the only way that I get yardwork or housework or any horribly boring task done. They keep me interested and make monotonous tasks fun (or at least bearable). Go here for more information on podcasts.

See! It’s that purple app, right there on your iphone.
What is your podcast going to be about? Thanks for asking! The 365 Days Podcast: Getting Better Everyday is going to feature weekly challenges to help you (and mostly me and Heidi) to make positive, small, baby steps each week to become the people that we want to be. Heidi and I have learned something about ourselves this year–we need someone to be accountable to or things just don’t get done. The podcast will challenge Heidi, You and Me to get better in one specific way each week and then give us a measure of accountability (a kick in the butt to get things done instead of just thinking about it).

Getting excited–planning out the podcast!
One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is “Happier” by Gretchin Rubin. She often says:
“If ten coins are not enough to make a man rich, what if you add one coin? What if you add another? Finally, you will have to say that no one can be rich unless one coin can make him so.”
In my memory, I recalled this argument as: “Will one coin make a man rich?”
I think the “argument of the growing heap” has stuck with me because it captures a paradox that I grapple with in my own life, and which is very significant to happiness: Often, when we consider our actions, it’s clear that any one instance of an action is almost meaningless, yet at the same time, a sum of those actions is very meaningful. Whether we focus on the single coin, or the growing heap, will shape our behavior.
The goal of The 365 Days Podcast will be to add a coin to our pile one by one so that at the end of 365 days we will be able to look back and say “wow! I’ve created quite the heap of coins!”
I hope you’ll join us on our 365 Day journey. It will be full of fun, laughs and learning.

Podcast Meeting–planning out our podcast over pizza!
When will your podcast be out? The first episode will be out the first week of May.
