I was interested to see how the two creamy soups would stack up against each other as well as the two chilis.

Cordon Bleu Soup

The Cordon Bleu squeaked out a win not necessarily because of better flavor but because it scored big in the “likeliness of making it again” category.  Melody, our volunteer, said that the baked potato soup was  “Very easy soup. I had no issue with it, but at the end of the day wouldn’t make it again, because it’s easier to serve a loaded baked potato.”  Good point.

Next up we have our chili with dried pinto beans versus the white chicken chili.  Aimee was our cooking volunteer for these.  She said,

Chili

“I
don’t typically have dried beans around the house, but they were so cheap it
wasn’t a big problem. The only issue with them was I would think about making
the recipe in the morning, and then remember I had to soak the beans overnight
so it took me a couple weeks to finally get around to making the recipe. The
rest of the ingredients are things we had on hand, though it was a little
strange to me to microwave the vegetables and spices (just because I’ve never
done that before and I think they would cook enough in the slow cooker on their
own) but it was a really cheap meal for us and the results were amazing. My
husband even said this was probably the best traditional homemade chili recipe
he has ever had. Yum, we will definitely make this again!

The white chili recipe was good, I didn’t have a problem getting any of the ingredients, though
I had never heard of great northern beans before and they took a longer search
at the grocery store, but white beans and the rest or the ingredients are
things we always have so this would be a great recipe to throw in the crock pot
last minute. My only problem with the recipe is that I usually work 8+ hour
days, so it’s a little harder for me to have a meal that has a 4-6 hour cook
time, instead of 8-10. It wasn’t impossible, just something I had to account
for.  Because this recipe was so easy I
will probably make it again, but I do have another white chicken chili recipe
that I love a little bit more because it has a little more spices and flavor.”

So the Chili with Pinto Beans advances to round 2 and will compete against the Cordon Bleu Soup!
