Description

The Italian bomb sandwich has homemade marinara sauce (it’s easy with the Instant Pot!), sliced Italian sausages, garlic butter spread and melty cheese. Basically you’re going to love this sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Italian sausage links
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 4 slices of provolone cheese
  • 4 large hoagie buns

For the garlic butter:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Turn Instant Pot to sauté setting. When display says hot add in the sausage and brown on each side for 3-4 minutes. Add in the tomato juice and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking.
  2. Turn off sauté setting. Dump in the crushed tomatoes, butter, onion powder, garlic powder and salt.
  3. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 5 minutes. When time is up let pot sit for 5 minutes and then move valve to venting and remove the lid.
  4. Use tongs to move the sausages to a cutting board. Slice the sausages in half lengthwise and then into thirds. Stir the sauce that is in the Instant Pot.
  5. Turn oven to 350 degrees F to heat up. Slice open the hoagie buns and lay them open on a baking sheet.
  6. In a small bowl stir together the butter, garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Butter the insides of both halves of the bread.
  7. Sauce the insides of both halves of the bread with the sauce in the Instant Pot.
  8. Lay the cheese slices on top of the sauce on the bread half that will be the sandwich top.
  9. Place the sausage link pieces on top of the sauce on the bread half that will be the bottom of the sandwich.
  10. Carefully place the top of the sandwich on top of the bottom.
  11. Cover the sandwiches tightly with foil.
  12. Bake for 15 minutes.
  13. Use a serrated bread knife to slice the sandwiches into thirds and serve!
