Description

A German inspired version of a loose meat sandwich. It has tons of flavor with sausage, sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage (spicy, if desired)
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup drained sauerkraut
  • 1 green bell pepper, cored and diced
  • 6 slices provolone or muenster cheese
  • 6 pretzel or brioche buns (toasted is good!)
  • Spicy brown mustard

Instructions

  1. Turn Instant Pot to saute setting. When display says HOT add in the sausage and break it up. Add in the onions. Brown for about 5 minutes. Stir in the broth and scrape bottom of pot so that nothing is sticking. Turn off Instant Pot.
  2. Dump in the sauerkraut and green peppers.
  3. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 3 minutes. When time is up move valve to venting and remove the lid.
  4. Stir well. If you’d like to thicken the mixture you can stir in a couple tablespoons of potato flakes or you can make a cornstarch slurry.
  5. Spread mustard on the buns. Scoop meat onto the buns. Top each sandwich with a slice of provolone. Serve and enjoy!
