Description

Sloppy joes with a pepperoni pizza twist. An easy dump and go recipe. The meat can be prepared early and kept warm until it’s time to eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 pound uncooked lean or extra lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 green bell pepper, cored and diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni
  • 1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • 6 buns
  • 6 slices of mozzarella

Instructions

Instant Pot Instructions

  1. Pour water/broth into Instant Pot. Add uncooked ground beef into pot. Break it up as much as possible with a hamburger chopper tool* or a wooden spoon. Dump the onion, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, bell pepper, pepperoni, crushed tomatoes and tomato paste on top. Do not stir.
  2. Cover Instant Pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to sealing. Set the manual/pressure cook button to 10 minutes. When the time is up move the valve to venting and remove the lid.
  3. Use a spoon to stir the contents of the pot and to break up meat. If mixture is too runny then turn to saute and let it simmer a few minutes. Salt and pepper to taste. Add in fresh basil.
  4. Scoop mixture onto buns and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese.

  4. Scoop mixture onto buns and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese.

Notes

I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*. Make in the 3 or 8 quart pot with no changes.
