  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs top sirloin steak
  • 6 flat pita breads (I like the Papa Pita brand)
  • Sliced red onions
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • 6 Tbsp feta cheese
  • Sliced olives, optional
  • Salt and pepper

Marinade:
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/8 tsp dried marjoram
  • 1/8 tsp dried basil
  • 1/8 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/8 tsp dried onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp dried garlic powder
Tzatziki Sauce:
  • 1 cup plain yogurt or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 Tbsp dried dill or 2 Tbsp fresh dill
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl make the marinade. Whisk together the lemon juice, lemon zest, poultry seasoning, oregano, marjoram, basil, thyme, onion powder and garlic powder. In a plastic zipper bag or container place the steaks. Pour the marinade over the steaks and refrigerate (covered) for 8-24 hours. About 20 minutes before you want to cook the steaks take them out of the fridge and let them come to room temperature (not necessary but the pros say this makes the best tasting steak).
  2. Bring your grill to a medium-high temperature. Salt and pepper your steaks. Place the steaks on the grill and cook until golden brown and slightly charred, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn the steaks over and continue to grill 3 to 5 minutes for medium-rare (an internal temperature of 135 degrees F), 5 to 7 minutes for medium (140 degrees F) or 8 to 10 minutes for medium-well (150 degrees F). Place the steaks on a plate and tent loosely with foil and let rest for 10 minutes.
  3. While the steak is resting, prepare the Tzatziki sauce. Peel the cucumber and either grate it or dice it up very finely. Combine the cucumber, yogurt, dill, salt and garlic in a bowl. Stir and then salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Bake your pitas in the oven at 425 degrees F for 5 minutes (or you could definitely warm them up on your grill). Spread Tzatziki sauce over the top of the pita. Sprinkle with 1 Tbsp of feta cheese and top with red onions, tomatoes and olives. Cut the steak across the grain into bite size strips and place on top of your pita pizza. Eat and enjoy!
