Delicious Mashed Potatoes and a Thanksgiving Giveaway from Macy’s!!!

  • Pinterest
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
Last year’s Thanksgiving pies (not all are pictured).
And that’s why I refuse to go to Thanksgiving anywhere but my Grandma’s.

Thanksgiving is a huge tradition in my family. HUGE.  It’s our big day where we all get together.  We always go to my Grandma Woodward’s house and usually there are 50-80 people for dinner (my Grandma has 11 kids!).  In my 31 years, I can remember just 4 Thanksgivings somewhere other than Grandma’s house.  We love all of Grandma’s cooking…the turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, stuffing, cranberry relish and of course, the pies.

If you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner at your house, slow cookers are a wonderful way to cook portions of dinner.  One recipe that you may want to seriously consider making this Thanksgiving in your slow cooker are mashed potatoes.  This recipe is truly delicious and allows you to make it ahead of time.

Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes (slow cooker)๏ปฟ

Creamy, delicious mashed potatoes in the slow cooker!

3 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 1/2 cups water
2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 bay leaf
1 tsp salt
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup warmed buttermilk
2 Tbsp fresh chives (optional)

Place potatoes, water, garlic, bay leaf and salt in slow cooker.  Cover and cook on LOW for 4-6 hours, or until potatoes are tender.  Drain potatoes and discard the bay leaf and garlic cloves.  Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or a fork.  Stir in the butter and buttermilk.  Stir in the chives and salt and pepper to taste.  Makes 6-8 servings (double for Thanksgiving dinner and place in a large slow cooker 6-8 quart)
Want to meet Wolfgang Puck???
Now that we have that covered.  I can tell you about something really exciting.  Macy’s is hosting a recipe share contest!  Macyโ€™s is inviting fans to submit their favorite holiday recipes at their Facebook page for a chance to win a dinner with a renowned Macyโ€™s Culinary Council chef, including Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, Cat Cora or Todd English!  So share your favorite holiday dish and you could be a winner!!!  How exciting!

Enter to win!  In addition, Macy’s is giving one of my readers a great prize…A set of 3 fry pans from the Martha Stewart collection!  How much could you use these?  Oh my gosh, my pans are dis-gust-ing!  I could totally use these.  Too bad I can’t win any myself.  In addition I will throw in a copy of my cookbook.  So do you want to win?  There are several ways to enter.  You can enter one way or all of them.  It’s up to you.  If you enter more than one way make sure to leave more than one comment.  Also, on your comment leave a way for me to get a hold of you in case yo win.  (FYI:  if you are having trouble commenting try google chrome or firefox instead of Internet Explorer, they take seconds to download.  Sometimes blogger is weird with IE.)

Here are the ways to enter (choose one or more):
1.  Leave a comment telling me your favorite food to eat on Thanksgiving
2.  Like my facebook page
3.  Share my facebook page
4.  Like me on twitter.
5.  Tweet about my blog
6.  Subscribe to my blog (look on right hand column where it says “subscribe to”)
7.  Share my blog in some other way (pinterest, stumble upon, emailing your friends etc.)
8.  Vote for my blog on babble (right now I think I’m number 23)

After you do one (or more) of these things make sure to leave separate comments below.  Thanks guys and good luck!  The giveaway will end 11/19/11 at noon.

I love to eat "Pumpkin Dip" with ginger snaps! It is waaaaay better than Pumpkin Pie—-which I am not very fond of. I like to take it to our big family gathering on Thanksgiving and share it as an afternoon snack while we're waiting for the turkey to bake.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
