4 pork chops
salt to taste
pepper to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp oil
2-2 1/2 cups ketchup (I used about half this much)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp hickory-flavored liquid smoke (found in your grocer’s bbq sauce aisle)
1 cup onions, chopped (I left these out)
Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Brown on both sides in oil in skillet. Drain. Combine ketchup, brown sugar, and liquid smoke in bowl. Place onions in slow cooker. Dip browned pork chops in sauce mixture and place on onions. Pour remaining sauce over chops. Cover. Cook on low 7-9 hours, or high 4-5 hours.
Review:
I usually skip the step of browning in the skillet beforehand. Afterall, it is a crockpot. Aren’t you just supposed to throw everything in and turn it on? However, this time I thought I would try it. I think it sealed the flavor in better. The pork chops turned out really tasty. I liked the flavor of the liquid smoke. I bet this would be really good with chicken as well. 3 1/2 stars.
