(Slow Cooker) Seasoned Brown Rice

Makes 4 cups of cooked rice

2 cups boiling water
1 cup long grained brown rice
1 tsp Shirley J Chicken Bouillon or 2 tsp chicken bouillon granules
1 bay leaf

1.  Combine water, rice, bouillon and bay leaf in slow cooker.
2.  Cover and cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours, until rice absorbs liquid and is fluffy.

Review:
I am a huge fan of brown rice.  But not a fan of how long it takes to cook.  I ALWAYS forget to put it on the stove top 45 minutes before dinner.  So we end up making minute brown rice a lot.  Which is fine.  But if you want to use your slow cooker like a pseudo-rice maker you sure can.  It actually works quite nicely.  Keep in mind, the larger your slow cooker, the quicker the rice will be done.  4 stars.

Do you need to increase the liquid-to-rice ratio if you add veggies? I want to add carrots and onions from the beginning and then fresh spinach about 1/2 hour before rice is done. Is this the right way to do it?

I wouldn’t change the ratio. I would just add in the carrots and onions at the beginning like you said with the other ingredients. Let me know how it goes!
