Have you ever had a recurring dream? You know the one where you’ve forgotten that you had enrolled in a college course but somehow it’s the final exam day and suddenly you’re expected to take a test in which you are utterly unprepared. Or some similar version?
I often get the dream that my high school track coach wants me to run the 1600 and I’m like 36 years old. “Mr Stingley I can’t run! I’m not in shape.” But you have to! You’re all we’ve got.
Sometimes these dreams, at least for me, are a reflection that in some area of my life I’m not prepared.
Do you remember this scene from Better Off Dead? Ha ha classic. Classic scene and classic 80s movie.
What would you do if you had minutes to evacuate from your house? What would you grab? What if a hurricane or tornado was headed your way? What if something less drastic happened? For example, if your power was going to be off for a day would you be ready for that? What would you do? What about if you or your spouse lost your job? Are you financially prepared for a situation like that?
Sometimes these types of questions can be very uncomfortable because we simply aren’t prepared (I’m raising my hand). However, if we take small baby steps we can slowly become more and more prepared for life’s challenges and therefore more and more peaceful and calm.
This week’s challenge
Each week on the 365 Days Podcast we issue a challenge. This week the challenge is to become prepared in one area of your life. For example I’m choosing to get the recommended amount of water stored for my family in case something were to happen to the water supply or another catastrophic incident were to happen. The recommendation is that you store 1 gallon of water per person per day (1/2 gallon for drinking and food prep and 1/2 gallon for cleaning). I’m choosing to get a 14 day supply so that would be 56 gallons for the four of us.
