Instant Pot Cheeseburger Pasta–all the amazing flavors from cheeseburgers in a one pot pasta dish. Your whole family will love this dinner!
Instant Pot Cheeseburger Pasta
My whole family agreed that this cheeseburger pasta tasted better than it looked. When you dig in it’s like all the flavors from a cheeseburger in a one bite. The thing that made this recipe is the dill pickles. Don’t knock it until you try it! The diced pickles dispersed throughout the pasta gave the dish flare and flavor. We loved this the day of and we loved the leftovers too.
A few notes about ingredients:
Pasta: I used farfalle pasta (bowtie pasta). Any other sturdy pasta could work with this recipe. For example using a penne or cavatappi pasta would taste great. If you go with something that is thinner and smaller like spaghetti you’d have to adjust the cooking time lower.
Ground Beef: I used 80/20 ground beef and drained off the excess grease. You can use leaner or less lean ground beef, it’s up to you. I have also made this recipe with ground turkey. It’s not quite as good but it will do in a pinch.
Steak seasoning: I used Montreal Steak Seasoning* in my pasta. You can use whatever steak seasoning you like best.

What Pressure Cooker Did You Use?
To make Instant Pot Cheeseburger Pasta I used my 6 quart Instant Pot Duo 60 7 in 1*. I love this Instant Pot because it has the yogurt making function which I use almost weekly. It has two pressure settings (high and low), and there are also little slots in the handles so that you can rest the lid there instead of putting it down on your counter-top.

- Yield: 4 servings 1x
Description
All the amazing flavors from cheeseburgers in a one pot pasta dish. Your whole family will love this dinner!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 2 cups water
- 8 oz farfalle pasta (bowties)
- 1 (14.5 oz) can petite diced tomatoes
- 1/3 cup diced dill pickes
- 2 Tbsp mustard
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp steak seasoning
- 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
- 2 cups medium or sharp grated cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Turn your Instant Pot to the saute setting. When the display says HOT add in the ground beef and brown it for about 5 minutes. Add in the diced onion and saute the onion in the grease from the beef for about 3 minutes. If there is excess grease, you can drain it off or spoon it out.
- Add in the water and deglaze the pot, if it needs it.
- Add in the pasta, diced tomatoes, pickles, mustard, ketchup, steak seasoning and seasoned salt. Stir a bit.
- Cover the pot and secure the lid. Make sure valve is set to “sealing.” Set the manual/pressure cook button to 4 minutes. When the time is up you can perform a quick release by moving the valve to venting. If any foam comes out of the valve just move it back to sealing. Try again in 20 seconds to move it to venting.
- Remove the lid and stir. Add in the cheese and stir until it is melted.
- Scoop onto serving dishes and enjoy!

5 stars…maybe 6. 🙂
We have four children 10 and under and this recipe is on regular rotation! It is so good and we now need to double it or there could be a riot!!!
Thank you for an easy, delicious meal for our hungry bunch!
Frankie
Karen says
So glad you loved it Frankie!!! Thanks for the review!
Ty says
I think something went wrong with the nutritional info.
Amy says
Excellent , quick and my kiddos gobbled it up!
Karen says
I love the pickles in this one! So fun!
Sharon says
This made a quick and tasty weeknight meal. I used the saute button once it was done to dry out the excess liquid. What is the actual sodium content? I would love for it to be only 6. 😉
Lisa says
Love this recipe, however, the last three times I’ve made it my Instant Pot shuts off and says Burn on the monitor. I quick release and sure enough part of the food is burned onto the bottom. I can always salvage the remainder and it’s cooked fine. What am I doing wrong?
Karen says
Are you making sure to deglaze the pot well?
Angie says
I’m having the same problem and I do deglaze it. I follow the recipe to a T. Wondering what I’m doing wrong? Or what I can do to avoid this?
ruth says
I agree. My kids like the flavour of this recipe but I will quit making it simply because it burns Every. Single. Time. And yes, I do deglaze the pot, and follow the recipe.
Melissa says
I completely forgot to buy an onion! I have onion powder… would it be ok to use that instead?? With all the COVID-19 issues, I want to avoid going to the grocery store for just an onion!!
Thanks!!!
Karen says
Yes you can leave the onions out.
Heather says
Do you think that I can triple the recipe for a larger crowd?
Karen says
Yes but I think you’d need an 8 quart pot to triple it. You could double it in the 6 quart pot.
michele says
8 oz of pasta doesnt seem like much…….will it make 4 servings? BF doesnt like dill pickles but I love them! Also, regular mustard from fridge or ground mustard? I “assume” regular because the recipe would state ground, correct?
Karen says
Yes it makes 4 moderate servings. If you are hearty eaters then less. And you’re right it is yellow mustard 🙂
Caroline says
Hi, this looks delicious! Is it at all spicy? I have a 5 year old who sensitive to spice. Thanks!
Karen says
No, I don’t think it is spicy at all.
Paula F. says
I spiced mine up. I put chopped garlic, fresh hatch green chilies, and hot spicy ketchup in ours. It was really tasty. I used Claussens pickles in our also.
Karen says
Wow that sounds fantastic!
Anita says
I make this at least every other week and it is not spicy at all. I cannot handle spicy. This is my favorite dish and the dill pickles give it a unique taste.
Cheryl says
Hi – stupid question maybe but do you remove meat and onions before you deglaze the pot?? Thanks!
Karen says
no you don’t have to. Just pour in the liquid and scrape the pot.
Kevin says
If I was going to double this should I use the same amount of water or double that as well?
Karen says
Yeah, you’ll need to double the water as well. Perhaps cut the cooking time by 1 minute too.

“If I had a long enough tongue, I’d lick the bowl.” –My mother, after my first time making this recipe.
This is an AMAZING recipe, and I’m grateful that it only needs a small handful of ingredients. I already had most of it, in fact, and the canned tomatoes were put to much better use here than in Yet Another Spaghetti Dinner.
Karen says
Haha! this is great!
Jaclyn Page says
Am I supposed to drain the water out when I deglaze before adding in other ingredients or when you deglaze do you keep the water and all the scrappings in the dish and keep adding ingredients to it? I just made this and it smells delicious but it seems a lot more watery than the pictures show. It looks like a soup. Is that right? Thanks!
Karen says
You keep the water and everything in there. It should thicken up.
Deborah Jones says
What is deglazing, please?
Karen says
Pouring liquid into the pot and scraping the bottom so nothing is sticking to the pot.
Kate says
Hi! First time instant pot lady here! Do I add all the water and ingredients or only water if I need to deglaze?
Karen says
Just the water will work 🙂
Heather Fleming says
I can’t wait to try this tonight! Should I cook the pasta before adding it to the insta pot?
Karen says
no just add it in uncooked!
Kathryn says
Is the pressure supposed to be set on high or low?
Thanks!
Karen says
high
Laura says
If you were to make this in a regular crock pot how long and what temperature please?
Karen says
I’m sorry I don’t have a crockpot version of this particular recipe.
Gail says
This is delicious!!! I have made this dish in my instapot many times its fast and easy and ready in 15 min.
Including prep time…my family loves it, I even double the recipe so I can have leftovers for my daycare children…its a real keeper!!❤
Karen says
So glad you liked it Gail!!!
Kimberly says
I’m planning on making this tomorrow night. Question, I’m out of cheddar cheese, do you think it would be good if I used a can of condensed cheddar soup? I’m not feeling well and trying to avoid a trip out, lol.
Karen says
I bet you could. It will give it more of a creamy consistency.
Cheryl says
Hi Karen! I got a, you can make this again, compliment. It is very good. Are you supposed to drain the tomatoes? I didn’t. Let me know!
Thanks for sharing,
Cheryl
Karen says
Hi Cheryl, I did not drain my tomatoes! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

This dish was do darned tasty. I cooked the meat and onions and added the other ingredients. I then cooked the pasta and added some butter and placed it in a 9×13 pan. Added the meat on top then the cheese and baked it at 350 for about 20 mins to heat through. Especailly liked the pickles. Very much like a cheeseburger. I used Gluten free pasta and it came out perfectly. Thanks for such tasty and easy recipes.
Karen says
Sounds amazing Linda! I’m glad you liked it 🙂
