This post is a review of Orrington Farms Broth Base and Seasoning. I have been compensated for my time.
If you’ve read most of my soup recipes you know that I call for a lot of chicken broth and then I usually say you can substitute with water and chicken bouillon/base. I do this because:
A. I never really have a can/carton of chicken broth on hand
B. chicken base/bouillon seems to be a lot cheaper than broth
C. it takes up a lot less space
For example with the Greek Lemon Chicken Soup recipe that I posted a few days ago the recipe calls for 7 1/2 cups of chicken broth. I don’t ever have that many cans of chicken broth in my pantry at one time.
Some of you may be thinking, “but bouillon is so salty and doesn’t it have MSG?” Well let me tell you that not all bouillons/bases are created equal. I was lucky enough to try out Orrington Farms Broth Base and Seasoning. I used it in Greek Lemon Chicken Soup and because that soup is so brothy I felt that I would be able to really get a good sense if I truly liked this product or not. Not only did I like it but my whole family did. We all gulped that soup down.
Here are some things I noticed:
1. It wasn’t too salty. It had enough flavor but it wasn’t overpowering. It’s actually flavored with sea salt. And this product contains no MSG and is made with natural ingredients.
2. I liked that this broth base is in powder form. This makes it easy to dissolve. It also makes it easy to measure out exactly how much you need (unlike bouillon cubes). For every cup of water you will use 2 teaspoons of the base. I did have to keep thinking to myself “two to one, two to one” Just because I’m used to having the one to one ratio. So remember that!
3. I liked the price. The 6 oz container that I have makes 28 cups of broth and costs just $3.16. If you were to buy a 32 ounce carton of broth that would cost you about the same price. So you basically get 7 times as much for the money.
So all in all, yes I recommend this product! You can order it online or here is a list of stores that should carry it.
I would also suggest getting the French Onion Base and making my French Onion Beef Stroganoff. We are going to make that one again this week. Roast was on sale for $2.99 a pound at Smith’s. My family will be pumped. They all really loved the French Onion.
Oh, and Orrington Farms also has a line of slow cooker products as well that you may want to purchase. I have tried a few and really like the convenience they give me!!
Here are some of their slow cooker products:
chicken noodle soup seasoning
BBQ pork roast seasoning
tender pot roast seasoning
If you’d like to see all the products that Orrington Farms offers visit their website. I really feel like the quality of their products is outstanding and the prices can’t be beat.

I loved learning about Orrington Farms Broth Base and seasoning because I often substitute bouillon for chicken broth in recipes. Mostly because of the cost savings. I really like that this product doesn't contain MSG. Look forward to trying your Greek Lemon Chicken soup recipe. Thanks Karen!

I use Better than Bouillon. Low salt, low calorie, sold at Costo (no shipping) and easy to store.

You might be interested in noting that the first ingredient in Orrington Farms Broth Base is salt. If you purchase Better Than Bouillon, the first ingredient is chicken and I believe the prices are comparable.

Thanks for sharing this info. I try to make my own broth but it does max out my freezer space so this is a great alternative to have on hand in the pantry when I am running low. I checked and the sell this at my local grocery store so I am excited to try some out!!

I found a great solution……just don't make the freaking soup! Soup is suppose to be an inexpensive way to clear out your refrig of leftovers or produce that needs to be used before an expiration date.

So the list of stores includes only the same online store as the 'buy it here' link AND there's a charge of $11.+ for shipping.
Where's the deal for the consumer?
