Day 44: Slow Cooker Apple Crisp (crock-pot)

Makes 8 servings

2 lbs cooking apples (usually a tart variety), peeled and sliced (about 6 med apples)
2/3 c old-fashioned oats
2/3 c flour
2/3 c packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup butter, not margarine

1.  Add sliced apples to slow cooker.
2.  Combine oats, flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg in medium mixing bowl. Cut in softened butter until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.
3. Cover slow cooker with paper towels (2 or 3 thick).  Place lid firmly over paper towels (towels will absorb some of the condensation).  Cook on HIGH for 2-3 hours, until apples are soft.

Review:
I loved this! I served it with cool whip but vanilla ice cream would be even better. I just halved the recipe and it was perfect for the three of us plus an extra serving. I give this recipe 4 stars.

  1. This was very good! I didn't quite have enough apples, so I used 1 pear too & it was still good. I cannot wait to try it w/blackberries!

  2. This looks good, I'll have to try it. I just made Apple Butter using the recipe from Make It Fast, Cook It Slow from the author of a sister year-round crockpotting site. I'm excited to see what you have up your sleeve now, too!

  3. Hello, I made this delicious recipe and served it with banana ice cream ( freeze slices of banana and process with vanilla extract until it resemble soft serve ice cream)
    Totally yum. TFS

    I make this pretty much like you do, but I use my mini slow cooker. I cut up one to two apples, place that in, then one packet of apple-cinnamon oatmeal, then a couple of pats of butter, a little water and sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top. I cook this, check on if I need more water (depends on apples), and let it cook for couple of hours. I suspect I could do the same thing with peaches etc.
